Allie shot up, her eyes snapping open as water dripped down her face.

She wiped her eyes, and she heard a voice say, "Morning, sunshine."

Allie glared at the curly haired elf, who stood on the side of her bed, a cup of water in his hand. She shoved her wet blanket and pillow to the ground. "Seriously?"

"I told you to be awake." Bernard shrugged, putting the glass back into his bag. "It's not my fault you were still asleep."

Allie glanced at the clock on her desk, and she clenched her jaw. 6:07. You've got to be joking.

She grabbed an outfit, slipping out and into the bathroom to change. When she came back, Bernard was standing at her desk, holding a frame in his hand. She didn't think anything of it, until Bernard asked, "I didn't know you knew how to smile."

She looked over her shoulder, and Bernard showed her the picture he was holding. When she saw what it was, she was quick to snatch it from him, throwing it back into her desk drawer. She slammed the drawer shut, and snapped, "Why did you have that?"

"It's a nice picture," Bernard said. "I don't know why you have it hidden away."

"Because I don't want it out." she snapped. "There's no reason for it to be out. I don't...I don't even know where it came from."

Bernard didn't say anything else about the picture. Instead, he leaned against the wall, and said, "Well, the first thing is knowing what Santa needs without him having to say it."

"That's impossible." Allie argued. "No one can know something like that."

"You can," Bernard said simply.

"No, I can't." Allie scoffed, walking around her room. "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. No one can possibly know—"

Bernard reached forward, grabbing the book from Allie's hand. The girl stopped, staring confused at the cover of 'Little Women'. The elf hummed and said, "Not bad. But I was thinking of the one beside it."

After a few more minutes of going back and forth, somehow knowing what Bernard needed, they finished. "Over all, I'd give you a four out of ten."

"What? I got half of them right!"

Bernard only waved is hand, and asked, "Next lesson. Are you afraid of heights?"

"No." Allie said a little too quickly.

The elf nodded, grabbing Allie's arm, and next thing she knew, they were on her roof. Allie couldn't the gasp escape her as she stumbled backwards a bit.

From his spot beside her, Bernard watched her with furrowed brows. She looked like she was reaching to grab onto something, and her eyes were clenched shut. Her hands shook violently, and her face was pale.

"What's wrong with you?" Bernard asked, a flash of genuine concern flashing through him.

"N-nothing." Allie denied.
