Moments Away

"Yes, you can."

Ethan panted with each stride he took on the treadmill of the hospital's gym, the only sound of a companion for his morning workout being the light whirring of the machine.

Blue had an early call in for one of her patients, and being a early waker, Ethan drove her to work and figured that he could fit in a quick workout before his shifted started. In a way, it provided him some alone time to think and plan his proposal further in private.

Having dated Blue for more than a year now, Ethan was obviously privy to her preferences when it came to romance. She liked gestures that were simple, intimate and special nonetheless, especially when it came from him. Which was why Ethan had a hard time deciding the major aspects of his proposal. Being a meticulous man as well as a perfectionist, Ethan wanted it to be nothing short of perfect.

He did not want it to be too simple, and at the same time, not too over the top as well. Blue and Ethan were both not people who appreciated over-extragavence too much, and he eliminated out any grand proposal ideas from him head.

Location was another concern, and he wanted it to be meaningful for the both of them. However, there was also the issue of the both of them having far too many special places together, to pick any one of them. They had literally scaled the greatest landmarks of some of the countries and cities they have been to, and that would fall under the 'grand' category that Ethan was trying to avoid.

There was Boston, where they were most undoubtedly going to build a life together for the rest of their time. There was Edenbrook, the diagnostics office in particular where he had first professed his love for her. There was also Brazil, Blue's birth country and the very same place where he had attempted in futile to escape his feelings for her two years back.

It was always more difficult to have too many options compared to none, and Ethan found himself more confused than before. He turned off the treadmill, got off it and headed to the bench where he had dropped his gym bag. He sat down, taking a swig of cold water from his bottle, letting the chilled liquid exuberate the heat that had engulfed him from his workout.

As he hydrated himself, his confused state of mind drifted back to when he first told both of their parents and Naveen about his decision to propose, hoping the memory of encounter would give him more inspiration...

A few weeks ago...

Naveen's lake house was lively and filled with chatter as he had invited Blue and her friends, Ethan, and his parents over for a weekend. The Hunters had flew down from New York to visit their daughter for a few days, and the chief of Edenbrook had called them over as well.

It was the end of January, and Naveen wanted to have a little gathering at his lake house to celebrate the start of the new year and reconnect with his old friends, who just happened to be Blue and Ethan's parents.

The 'adults' were in the cabin's common room, chatting away. their conversations ranging from Edenbrook, with Bloom gone, to their children, while the 'kids' were outside at the gazebo overlooking the lake, creating a ruckus as they played fetch with Jenner who had tagged along with Blue and Ethan to the gathering.

Ethan watched from the side chair he was sitting on, a wistful smile on his face as he watched Blue and her friends throw the frisbee to each other, Jenner running from person to person to intercept it. Against the backdrop of the setting sun, it looked like a masterpiece to Ethan, a family that he had gained over the course of the past few years.
