Kaz never spent the night at the Van Eck manor and he wasn't going to start anytime soon. Besides, Havemayer's next shipment was scheduled to come in in three days after the
dinner at the Havemeyer mansion and Kaz wanted to be ready. Six hundred thousand kruge was a stack load of money, and he even considered way too much for what he was asked to do, but Kaz wouldn't say that of course.Whatever it was on that ship that Havemeyer found worth six hundred thousand kruge was something Kaz didn't want to bother with. Of course he was intrigued. What could be worth so much money? But he needed to be smart. He'd only recently overthrown Per Haskell and Pekka Rollins, faked the Council of Tides and even someone's death.
No matter how much Havemeyer's cargo had managed to pique his interest, he understood he had to lay low for a little while. And he was certain the councilman's daughter would be even more reluctant to join his gang if he angered her father beforehand. So he settled for simply informing Rotty, Specht, Jesper and Wylan about Havemeyer's request.
He'd thought the stealing from the ships were a bigger operation, and Kaz had wondered why he hadn't heard of it. Barrel gangs stealing from ships of councilmen were usually a big deal, things to be bragged about, passing gossip. More so when it was successfully done more than once, and based on how Havemeyer was talking, it was a regular thing.
So he'd done some digging the day after, paying off people watching and contacting acquaintances. The Black Tips weren't making a big deal about their heists and it wasn't circulating around the barrel because it was more of an undercover operation. It wasn't a large, crazy heist, but Geels was paying off some crewmen on the ship to carefully offload some of the shipment in his personal crates.
Kaz had to admit it was smart, but he was just smarter.
He'd already informed Specht and Rotty on their jobs. Kaz brought the Wylan and Jesper up to speed the day before the night of the shipment arriving. And currently, they were walking towards fourth harbor, where Havemeyer's ships docked.
"Specht and Rotty are already at the harbor," Kaz said to the two boys by his side, limping forward as the last of the sun's rays disappeared.
Jesper smiled and patted the gun hanging on the left side of his waist, "We're just going to give them a little scare, aren't we?"
Kaz rolled his eyes at Jesper's childlike excitement, "Yes. They aren't armed, not expecting any interference. Their plan is just to offload the shipment into a separate crate."
"So what exactly are we going to do? How will stopping them from stealing this shipment keep them away next time?" Wylan asked.
"We scare them off," Kaz said, as though it was the simplest thing in the world, "Break a few bones and have the Black Tips members report back to Geels to stay away from Havemeyer's ships."
