I would be lying if I said I was not scared shitless. The whole flight I did my best to distract myself from the negative thoughts in my mind. Things like... would I be good enough? Would his sister hate me? Would Kira be there?
My eyes turned out the tinted window. A large three-story mansion stood in front of us. It was bigger than Dante's mansion back in California. Outside, waiting in the steps were two figures—a woman and man. They looked so sophisticated and almost untouchable. It was like seeing a King and Queen. It did not take long for me to realize that the woman was Dante's sister and the man most presumably her husband.
A knot formed at the back of my throat as all the air escaped my lungs. My hands were shaking nonstop. I was nervous beyond compare.
"Just breathe," Samantha whispered into my ear. She gave me a reassuring smile before exiting the limousine.
"You got this my Angel," Dante assured.
He stepped out first before holding his hand out for me. He helped me out of the vehicle and I gave him a grateful smile. All three of us walked toward the awaiting couple.
"I see our dear sister did not join us," Alessandra said. Her accent was much more prominent compared to Dante and Caterina.
"She was feeling ill," Dante lied.
Caterina was not sick at all. She just wanted to 'skip over the family drama that was to unfold' as she had stated herself.
"Well, at least you were able to join us Sam," Alessandra looked over me as if I was invisible and hugged Samantha. "I heard that you are expecting."
"I am," Samantha smiled down at her small bump. It was almost unnoticeable beneath her loose dress.
"Well, we should head inside. Vincenzo and I have made sure the estate was prepared to your liking," Alessandra chirped as she turned in her heel.
She did not even bother to glance at me once. It was evident she knew who I was, the person responsible for Dante dismissing the engagement she had arranged.
"Alessandra, you forgot to greet Ms Astoria," Dante said trying to sound as cool as possible.
The tall brunette turned around with a feigned expression of confusion. Her lips puckered into a strained smile.
"Oh. I guess I did not see her there," she chuckled softly. She extended her hand out and I hesitantly shook it. "Nice to meet you Ms Astoria. You are my brother's new personal assistant, correct?"
"Yes I am," I replied politely.
"That's good news. We need all the help we can get," Alessandra smirked.
