EVELINA

We shouldn't be here. I shouldn't be here.

The loud music echoed through the crowded halls of the Gentile manor. Drunken teenagers walked up and down. Some of them finding hidden corners to stick their tongues down one another, or to get high on drugs.

"Angelo, we should really go. Dad is going to be mad if he finds out," I warned as I tugged on my brother's sleeve.

He turned to me with a pair of angry green eyes.

"I'm not leaving until those bastard's pay for what they did to you." His gaze fell to the band-aid around my knee.

I crossed me leg over the other to hide my wound.

       "I just fe-"

"Don't hit me with that bullshit, Eve."

Why did he always have to be so intuitive?

"What is taking you two so long? Are we doing this or not?" Our older cousin, Leonardo asked.

Right behind me was Matteo—our other cousin.

"It's too late now. The twins have already begun the plan." Matteo nodded his head toward the two girls dancing on top of the kitchen countertop.

They received many wolf-whistles from the onlookers, but they remained unfazed.

I could not comprehend how they could be so bold. Maybe if I had an ounce of the confidence they did, we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with?

"Was it really necessary for them to be the distraction?" Angelo frowned as he watched the horny teenage boys basically undressing the two girls with their eyes.

"Do you think we would have looked as good dancing up there in mini-skirts as they do? I know I am hot, but there's a limit to the level of my attractiveness," Leonardo said with his usual cool smile.

"I think there's a pimple growing right there." Matteo squinted his eyes and pointed at a random spot on Leo's face.

The brunette's big blue eyes widened in horror as he patted his face frantically.

        "Where? Where?"

"There." Matteo flicked his finger on Leonardo's face causing him to wince in pain. He snickered at his own actions, but Leo looked unamused.

"I'm surrounded by idiots." My brother pinched the bridge of his nose with a frustrated sigh.

"My man!" We turned to the group of bastards that had entered the room while we were distracted.

Eric Ricci, Santos Gimbo, and Fernando Gentile. They were the Kings of my school. Loved and admired by everyone—except me. I hated them with a full passion especially their jerk-of-a-leader and they seemed to hate me just as much. Even though I lied to my parents, they were the cause of my bruised knee. Angelo knew this, too.
