Hiding

Your sweet words soothe my soul.

It plays my thoughts to sleep.

I dream with peace.

Though it's just a play. A veil you use to cover up the real you.

You put on an act for the audience to see the costume.

When really you're just wearing makeup that you can't seem to remove.

I splash water onto your face.

Maybe it'll wash off the fake and show the truth.

I would rather settle for less, than the fake-best.

But it's not the case, you just seemed to have fit the mask too perfect.

Your sweet words play a tune now.

It just seeps to my soul, keeping me awake at night.

Overthinking about the light that used to shine in your eyes.

It was never light, but a refraction of what used to be mines.
