-Erica's POV-

"I could get used to this," I whisper, turning to see Calum staring back at me, his smile warming my heart. He pulls me into his side and I laugh as he kisses my cheek, "We should get up soon. Busy day ahead of us," I tell him.

He pulls back with a deadpanned look, "I'm comfy and we have been nonstop moving for forever. I think my body's gonna give out underneath me," he says, starring at the ceiling.

"I know but we have to. Survival right?" I tell him as I sit up in the bed. I lean down once I see his grumpy face, giving him another kiss before going to the bags. I change into jeans and a flannel. The weather has been on and off so might as well dress comfy. As I'm sliding on my shirt there's a small knock at the door. Calum says a come in and Luke pops his head into the door.

"We are heading over in a few to decide who does what today. You guys coming?" He asks.

"Yeah we will be right down," I tell him. Calum groans as he gets to his feet and rummages through his bag. He stands in his boxers topped with messy bed head. My eyes are glued to his appearance as he pulls a pair of sweatpants on. He goes to grab a shirt when he looks at me amused, "Can I help you?" He teases. I choose to ignore his statement and grab my shoes.

"What would you rather do, scavenge the area or start building defenses?" I ask, sitting on the bed to tie my shoes.

"I'd rather sleep. Why can't this all wait until tomorrow?" he asks. He sees the look on my face and decides to stop trying to convince me. It's never gonna happen. I wait for him to finish getting dressed before grabbing his hand and walking with him next door.

Everyone is gathered around in the living room with a pot of food. Abigail pours two bowls of soup and passes them to Calum and I. We thank her and my stomach growls at the smell.

"How do we want to split up?" Posey asks, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Who would rather build?" Luke asks. Most of the guys raise their hands making the group laugh. Typical bob the builder attitude.

"Are you guys okay with scavenging alone?" He asks turning to Kyleigh, Abigail, and I.

"We can go with them," Posey volunteers pointing to Dylan.

"Okay perfect...after we eat we will start with our plans," he says, grabbing his bowl from Abigail. Throughout breakfast the guys discuss their plans for fortifications. They decided to build a protective wall in between the two houses. Just in case something happens we can run out in the middle of the night without being scared. It might take a little time but if we find some good supplies it should make it easier. I spent most of the time thinking about going back to bed with Calum, so most of their plan went right over my head.

"We can look for a hardware store to find boards and nails," Kyleigh says, bringing me back into the conversation.

"Try and find food mostly. We can handle taking apart fences in the neighborhood to use," Ashton says, explaining the plan further. I'm not sure how they are going to pull this off but I believe in them. Just a little scared to leave them without female supervision. We could come back to a lord of the flies type situation for all we know.

As we finish up breakfast we grab empty backpacks and our knives as Luke hands Kyleigh the walkie-talkie, "Call if anything happens. Don't go too far and stick together," he says making me laugh.

"Okay dad"

He ignores my comment and pulls Kyleigh in for a hug as Calum does the same to me, "I don't like us separating again," he says, bringing our lips together, his hands caressing my cheeks.

"We aren't going far, don't worry. Have fun building us protection from the things that go bump in the night," I smile walking over to where the girls, Posey, and Dylan are. I glance back and see Jared and Jensen nervously looking at Abigail as we split up.

"Ready?" Abigail asks, sliding her water bottle into her bag. I nod my head and we start walking into the neighborhood.

"How did everyone sleep last night?" Kyleigh asks making small talk.

"As soon as I hit the pillow I was OUT," Posey says getting a groan from Dylan.

"Yeah he was snoring in my ear the entire night," Dylan says making us laugh.

"I slept good. It was a bit cold but not too bad," Abigail says securing her coat to her body. It's hard to ignore the slight chill spreading through the group. It's making this adventure more eerie as void sky's hang above us.

"Is anyone else creeped out by how white the sky is? Like no clouds.....just nothingness," I state almost running into a stop sign from looking up. Dylan laughs as helps keep me balanced.

"I like them. They are peaceful to me," Kyleigh says getting an agreed nod from posey.

"I think I'm going to miss the warmth and bright colors of summer. Don't get me wrong I love the fall but I think I'll have a different feeling about it now," Dylan says.

"I didn't even think about that. Winter used to mean Christmas and hot cocoa....now it's just cold," Abigail says bringing the mood down even more.

Posey claps his hands together and says we should change the subject. Shortly after Kyleigh interrupts our small game of Simon says, "Look".

We follow her finger and see a small greenhouse in the back of a house. We hurriedly walk over to it and open the door seeing perfect vegetables, "Did we hit the jackpot?" Abigail asks bending down. I look along the table outside and see packets of unopened seeds and a trowel.

"We definitely did," I smile, putting them into my bag. I hear the group laughing from inside and walk in to see Posey theatrically picking tomatoes off the vine.

"How are they all so fresh? Wait.....what vegetables grow in what seasons?" Dylan asks. We all shrug having no idea about gardening besides the small one we made before.

"It's not hard to figure out but it's nice to know we have fresh food," Kyleigh says.

"I'm so excited to eat anything other than beans," Abigail says grabbing anything else that's ripe. Seems like our luck is finally turning. Hopefully the guys are doing good in their end of the plan.
