Skylar Miller was only ten years old when everything began to fall apart. First, it was the quiet disappearances-one sibling at a time-until only three of her siblings remained in her life. Then came the accident, a day that left her with more than...

"They say the world is black and white, but when it comes to my little sister, she is the sunshine. She is the yellow that is painted across the sky at sunset, and the pink when the sun rises. She'll never know how much I love and care for her, because to me, it is for the better. That is just how I treat the people that I love the most"
Stepping into the kitchen, I was met with a full house. A full house being as many people as my older brothers could have, with my sister always having people over. I wiped my eyes, right as my twin brother joined my side. He nudged me, as if to say, of course our house is full before it's even 8am. It was a typical thing our older siblings were doing these days, as summer began.
That meant, that us littles, had to find something to keep ourselves occupied. We had claimed the upstairs living room for this reason, as it allowed them to have downstairs and their bedrooms, while the kitchen was the only communal area. "Hey Blakey" Summer called, as I braved the people and walked into the kitchen, grabbing some basic foods for the day.
I had convinced Riley to splurge on a second fridge upstairs, as this shit kept happening. See, I was fine with Jay's friends. I had grown up with them, and they treated us like their own younger siblings. He had the same few friends over, and they usually helped out, or sat out the back. They were the people I was actually okay with.
They were sitting on the back, as Summer tried to convince me to do something for her. She only ever called me Blakey, when she had friends over. If she wanted something done, she tried to act all sweet. I ignored her, taking a bottle of milk and some other foods, handing them off to Bray, as we death glared our sister, then headed off upstairs.
I heard my sister start to complain, but someone butted in. "Summer, leave them alone. Go outside, or something" it was Riley, and it was the first time I had heard him put Summer in her place. If anybody challenged her, she always pulled out that she was mom's favorite, and that mom ran the house, so that automatically meant it went to her.
See, mom ran the house like a mother. She cooked, cleaned, and cared for us however she could, but Summer doesn't do such a thing. She never had to lift a finger then, so why should she now, is how she views it all. It isn't right, but we have to live that way. We have to walk on egg shells around Summer.
"Oh, hey boys" Shane looked like a train wreck, just like Riley had when I got the smallest glimpse of him coming out of the living room. "Hey" the two of us muttered, as we walked up the stairs, prepared to rotate between the living room and the beach. "Do you mind looking out for Sky today? I have to head into college for a final exam, and then I'll be back to do the rest"
The two of us nodded, as Shane continued to talk about how my little sister, my little sunshine, had been sick all night, and she was currently sleeping in Shane and Riley's room, as they had a bathroom connected, and that she would need to be woken in a few hours, to take medication and eat something.
