Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
My apartment was silent. The only audible nosies were the ticking of the wall clock, and the anxious tapping of my foot on the floor.
I glanced down at my watch. 'She'll be here any minute', I thought.
While I waited for her to arrive, I mentally recited what I planned on saying to her.
Temperance, I know we haven't been together for very long, but I feel like I've known you forever. Being with you brings me more joy than anything else in my life. That being said, there's something that's been weighing on my heart lately. How would you feel about-
My thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.
I inhaled sharply, jumping slightly at the sudden noise. Taking a deep breath, I walked up to the door and opened it.
Brennan stood on my doormat, shivering slightly from the cool breeze. I quickly ushered her in, shutting the door behind her.
"Hey." I said with a little smile.
"Hey yourself." She returned, donning a playful smile.
She took her coat off, hanging it from one of the hooks next to my door.
My eyes widened as I saw her apparel. She wore blue skinny jeans that perfectly highlighted her hips and ass with a tight white sleeveless top that allowed a nice view of her breasts. All this paired with her combat boots (which I'd always found really sexy) completely derailed my train of thought. I had gone from nervous to flustered in about five seconds flat.
Being a scientist, Brennan picked up on my unwanted micro-expressions instantaneously.
With a smirk and mischievous eyes, she approached me.
"Like what you see?" She teased.
I slowly backed away as she slowly walked towards me. Before long, my back was against the wall, and she leaned over me.
"Turned on yet?" She asked seductively, placing her hands on either side of my head.
"Temperance..." I warned, swallowing the lump in my throat.
"Yes?" She asked, smirking wider and drawing closer.
"Dinner is getting cold." I stated, looking for an out.
"You have a microwave, don't you?" She responded smartly.
Shit. Jesus, this woman is going to be the death of me.
Things were getting heated, and I was getting really turned on. I knew that if I didn't end this quickly, I would be too far gone to stop her.
"Bren, we need to talk." I said seriously, staring earnestly into her eyes.
She took my meaning, nodding and backing away slightly.
I directed her towards the kitchen island. She took a seat as I served the food and then sat down next to her.
We ate in silence for a few minutes before she spoke up.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?"
I gulped, knowing the time had come. There was nothing I could do to avoid it now.
"Well," I started, drawing a shaky breath. "this is a subject that's been weighing on my mind for a while now."
Her brows furrowed in concern.
"I- It's nothing bad. I just need to be out with it already." I quickly assured her.
She nodded, giving me free range to continue.
I kept going, trying to remember my rehearsed monologue.
"Look, Temperance, I know we've only been together for a month or so, but I feel like I've known you forever. Every moment I spend with you makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. But... there's something that- that I need to do. I don't want to pressure you into it, but it's been eating me up inside, and I just need to-"
"Y/N." Brennan cut me off, worry and confusion bleeding through her expression.
I paused, realizing I'd been rambling. I took a moment to collect my thoughts before continuing.
"I- we- that is, I'd like to... I... I want to come out."
Silence hung in the air as she processed my words.
"You... you do?" She asked quietly, a certain longing in her eyes.
"Yes." I responded. "I do. I need to. But, I don't want to pressure you into this. It needs to be something that we both want."
"Y/N, of course I want to come out." She stated, a suppressed joy in her eyes. "Hiding our relationship has been severely injuring me from an emotional standpoint. I'd like nothing more than to show everyone, show the whole world, that you're mine."
There was a captivating possessiveness in her voice.
Overjoyed, I sprang forward, planting a happy kiss on her smiling lips.
"God, I love you, Temperance." I breathed out.
"God doesn't exist." She responded with a smirk. "But, damn it, I love you, too."
This time she kissed me.
