It is now a few days later, currently Kara is at work at CatCo, working on an article, with Lori being at school right now. However, today holds some form of significance, because it is the day that Kara has finally got the phone call which she has been dreading since Christmas Day.

Kara's phone rings, and as she looks at it, she sees that it's Lena's lawyer, Mark, calling her.

"He....hello?" Kara answers.

"Miss Danvers, I am phoning to let you know that Dr Stephen Andrews has officially filed a petition for custody of Lori in the National City courts." Mark says.

After hearing this, Kara simply freezes, while her heart races at a mile a minute. Kara knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but nothing has truly prepared her to hear the news that someone is really trying to take her daughter away from her.

"Miss Danvers?" Mark says, after a few moments, pulling Kara from her daze

"Hmmmm..... yeah... sorry... what?" Kara says.

"I was saying that our next step, now this petition has been filed, is for us to file a counter petition." Mark says, "Obviously you are trying to adopt Lori at the moment, but you'll still need to file a counter petition for custody."

"Of course." Kara nods, "I uhhmmmm.... How do I go about doing that?"

"You don't need to worry. These petitions are pretty boiler plate." Mark says, "We will have one drawn up for you. All you'll need to do is just read it over, fill in some details, and then sign it. We will then send it to the courts."

"Alright, when can I do that?" Kara asks.

"We should have it finished for you by the end of the day." Mark says, "I can come by your office tomorrow, or we can meet somewhere, if you like?"

"Can't I meet you at the end of today?" Kara asks, "I just.... I would rather have this done right away."

"Of course." Mark replies, "I'm going to be at L-Corp for the rest of the day, so maybe you can swing by there, at around 5PM?"

"Sure. I'll be there." Kara says, "Thank you, Mark."

"Of course." Mark replies, "I'm happy to be of service, Miss Danvers. I know this is all very important for you, so you should know me and my team are in this with you. We are going to fight this with everything we have."

"Okay. Thank you, Mark. I'll see you later today." Kara replies.

"Of course. See you then." Mark says.

Kara then ends the phone call with the lawyer, and once she does, she takes a deep breath.

*******************************

It is now a few hours later, the end of the work day, and Kara has picked Lori up from school, after which she went back to CatCo with the 7-year-old and did a little work, just counting down the time until the end of the day, and when she can head over to L-Corp to speak with Mark, and actually sign the paperwork, contesting for the custody of Lori. It was a painful wait, especially after she picked Lori up, but she did her best to hide everything, because she couldn't let Lori think that there is anything wrong.

Right now though, Kara and Lori are at L-Corp, and the two are in the elevator leading up to Lena's office. Earlier today, after Kara got the phone call from Mark, she sent a text over to her girlfriend, letting her know what she had been told, and then asking her if she could watch Lori in her office for a few minutes. This is because today Kara knew that there wasn't anyone else who could pick Lori up from school, because both Alex and Kelly are busy with work, and at the same time, Kara knew that she would have to give Lori some sort of excuse as to why they are coming to L-Corp. So, Kara has simply decided to tell Lori that they are visiting Lena, and hopefully heading home with her for the evening. Kara hopes this will provide her enough cover just to excuse herself for a few moments, to then and talk with Mark for a little while, to sign all the documents that need to be signed. Obviously, Lena is more than happy to watch Lori, and is well aware that they are not telling the young girl what is going on.
