The night Vincent visited our home and shortly left, an incident that involved the SIU raiding a room in a motel was the talk of the town the next day.
The 'criminal had made a narrow escape and ran off to the forest.' The descriptions for this 'criminal' were too similar to Vincent's apparel. Surprisingly, no one in the family, especially Amira, seemed to connect the dots.
I know it was Vincent that they were chasing. It's only a matter of time before the suits walk in, knocking on our door. "Honey, don't leave the tap running if you're done washing the dishes." I was snapped out of my trance. "Oh, sorry, dear. Just daydreamed." I smiled and turned the tap off.
I struggled to come up with a solution to keep my family out of harm's way if it ever came to that situation.
"Hey, Dad. I was wondering if I could stay over at a friend's place?" Jack said. "Sweetie, I don't think-"
"Yes! Yes, you can, Jack." I interrupted Amira, and she just gave me a glare of confusion. "Oh, come on, let the kid go. I'm sure they won't wander off to the forest this time." I said, trying to reassure her.
With a nod from Jack, he rushed upstairs to gather his belongings. "What are you trying to do here, Mister?" Amira blurted out. "You sent Abigail to Vannie, where Valentine and Gina also stay at her place. Now Jack is off to his friends. . ." She knew what I was up to.
I let out a long sigh, seeing how dragging this on would entice her to press my buttons. "Look, Amira dear. . .you know the moment Vincent was brought into our lives, we both knew that the SIU would eventually trace back to us and our family would. . ." She set aside her kitchen knife beside the chopping board to face me and crossed her arms as I began to stammer on my words.
"You see, w-we know that the SIU and other corporate companies would be r-ruthless to get their grubby hands on Vincent, so I was thinking that the-there may be a chance we'll get caught in the crossfires-" I was interrupted with a kiss on the lip, catching me off guard.
"I know the risks, Jayce. But the young boy also needed our help." She said, "We're the Avery's. We're scientists for a reason- to discover potential cures for diseases and help those in need." She said as she placed a hand on my cheek.
"Jack stayed up almost all night trying to repair Vincent's phone. He somehow did it. The kid can be a genius." She said with such reassurance and a warm smile. "Well, if he wanted to." She added before picking up the knife and chopping the vegetables again.
I found myself slowly nodding and thought to myself, 'Damn. I'm the luckiest man alive to have married her.' I threw my worries aside and pulled out my phone to message Valentine.
'Valentine. Have you created the hard copies for the recorded documents, results, and files?'
'yeah, dad. abigail was a big help good idea sending her here.'
'Excellent. Still at Vannie's place?'
'in her lab right now. I cant believe we'll have to destroy and dispose of all of this shit. It probably costs thousands for just a drop. vannie was practically sobbing when she found out what we had to do with the samples.'
'taping her to the chair was a hassle. but you should've been there. it was hella funny lol. sucks seeing it all go like that tho fr.'
'Hurts for me to see it go too. But it is necessary. Keep your phone on alert THE WHOLE TIME! I'll let you know when you need to do it.'
'yes boss. jk love you dad.'
I chuckled at the last message then tucked away my phone. Jack had finally left after one of his friends picked him up by the car. Now, it's just my wife and I.
