Chapter 22: "The Prisoner"

Liz, Sam, and Dean are out behind the bunker setting up a hunter's funeral for Charlie and Liz softly says, "Charlie... We're gonna miss you. You were the best. And I'm so sorry--" Dean cuts her off and coldly says, "Shut up. You got her killed. You don't get to apologize." Liz says, "We were trying to help you." Dean says, "I didn't need help. I told you to leave it alone." Liz says, "I know, but I don't have choice." Dean scoffs and Liz continues to say, "This is the only way to get that Mark off your arm before you do something your gonna regret, so I had shot--" Dean cuts her off and says, "Yeah, you had a shot. Charlie's dead. Nice shot." Liz softly says, "You think I... you think I'm ever... gonna forgive myself for that?" Dean says, "You know what I think? I think it should be you up there-- not her. This thing with Cass and the book ends now. Shut it down before somebody else gets hurt, you understand me?" Liz doesn't say anything and Sam speaks up for the first time and says, "What about you?" Dean says, "Oh, I'm gonna find whoever did this, and I'm gonna rip apart everything and everyone that they've ever loved, and then I'm gonna tear out their heart." Sam says, "Is that you talking or the Mark?" Dean says, "Does it matter?" Dean walks away and Sam looks at Liz and says, "Why didn't you tell me about this?" Liz says, "Because you would've tried to stop me." Sam says, "I wouldn't have." Liz says, "Really?" Sam nods and says, "Something tells me you're not gonna stop, so let me help you." Liz softly smiles and says, "Okay."

Later, Liz takes Sam to her operation, and Rowena looks at her and says, "Well, about bloody time." Castiel says, "Hi, Sam. I'm guessing you know." Sam nods and says, "Yeah." Castiel says, "Where's Charlie?" Liz sighs and softly says, "She's dead." Castiel says, "Oh, no. God. I should have gone after her. I... What happened?" Liz says, "I happened." Castiel looks at her confused and she continues to say, "The Stynes. They caught up with her, and... Dean's going after them." Castiel says, "So, he knows." Liz nods and says, "Yeah." Castiel says, "Well, what now?" As Liz opens her mouth, her phone buzzes and she sees an email from Charlie that she broke the code and she walks up to Rowena and she shows her phone and says, "Is this what I think it is?" Rowena says, "That little minx. She's cracked the code." Liz hopefully says, "Can you read "The Book of the Damned" with this?" Rowena says, "Every last word. We can cure the Mark of Cain." Liz sighs and does a debate in her head, and she says, "Okay, I'm going to go find Dean and make sure he doesn't go too far off the reservation. Sam, you and Cass stay here with her." Castiel looks worriedly looks at Liz and says, "Are sure that's wise?" Liz nods and says, "Yeah." Liz then grabs Sam's arm and pulls him aside and says, "Sam, me and Rowena made a deal, and she wants to kill Crowley. Do you think--" Sam cuts her off nodding and says, "Yeah, I'll kill Crowley." Liz nods and says, "Okay, one other thing." Liz gives Sam a big hug and Sam hugs back confused, and Liz continues to say, "Thank you." Liz pulls away and Sam sees something in her eye, and he says, "Liz, what's going on?" Liz says, "In case something happens, I want you to look after Henry, promise me?" Sam nods and says, "Of course." Liz nods and sighs and Sam watches Liz walk away with a confused gazed. Sam walks over to Rowena and says, "Okay, get to translating." Rowena says, "About that-- I said I can read the book, I never said I would." Sam scoffs and says, "You had a deal with Liz." Rowena says, "Oh, she and I did, we do, and it's time for her to held up her end." Sam nods and says, "Yeah, I'll kill Crowley. After--" Rowena cuts Sam off and says, "Now. Once I cast the spell-- and you guys need me to cast that spell-- who knows what will happen?" Sam huffs frustratedly and he says, "How do you want me to kill Crowley?" Rowena smiles. Later, Sam goes to meet Crowley in an abandoned warehouse and Sam shoots Crowley with a devil's trap bullet. Sam walks forward and says, "Devil's trap bullet." Crowley says, "Moose. Shooting me from behind-- Poor form, even for you. Where's Dean?" Sam says, "Not here." Crowley says, "He called me." Sam says, "Did he?" Sam plays a voice message and its Dean's voice and it says, "Hey. I need your help." Crowley says, "Ah, aren't you a clever kitty? Does he know you're doing this? I only ask because your brother and I are such close friends now." Sam scoffs and says, "Friends? You're the reason Dean has the Mark of Cain. Everything that's happening-- all of this-- it's your fault! So, this...hmm. You've had this coming for a long time." Crowley looks at the demon blade in Sam's hand and he says, "You really think I'm frightened of that toothpick?" Sam says, "I don't care." Sam takes out a hex bag and places it into Crowley's jacket and Crowley says, "A hex bag?" Sam says, "By the way... she said to tell you should have taken the three pigs." Crowley softly says, "Mother?" Crowley then starts falling to the ground and he starts grunting and coughing. Crowley says, "I thought you were the smart one. Working with my mother. Are you insane? You actually trust her?" Sam says, "If Liz doesn't then I definitely don't." Crowley furrows his burrows, and he says, "Liz? So, she's involved with my mother?" Sam nods and says, "Yeah, it was her idea. I'm just following orders. If it wasn't me to kill you, it would be her." Crowley scoffs and says, "Really?" Sam nods and Crowley says, "She doesn't have any idea who that woman is." Sam says, "Trust me she knows that Rowena is her mother." Crowley says, "How?" Sam shrugs and says, "Don't know. Don't care." Crowley says, "Then why? What has she got over Liz?" Sam says, "Will you just die already?" Crowley spits blood out, and he sighs and says, "That's what I get." Sam's confused and says, "What?" Crowley says, "I said... that's what I get for trying to be the good guy." Sam says, "Wait a second. So, you're the good guy?" Crowley says, "Do you have any idea what I've been at for the past year? The changes I made to hell!" Sam says, "Am I supposed to be impressed by that?" Crowley angrily says, "Yes!" Crowley then coughs of up blood, and he continues to say, "I thought... if I did better... I might actually feel something again... that it might matter." Sam says, "It doesn't matter. You know, maybe everybody else forgot about all the bad you've done, but I haven't! I have watched you kill people, Crowley-- innocent people, people I cared about, people I loved. So, yeah, you-- you have the accent and the-- and the suit and the snark, but at end of it, you are a monster, just like all the rest of them. And I'm gonna watch you die screaming, just like all the rest of them." Crowley coughs up more blood and he says, "You're right. I am a monster. And I've done bad. I've done things you can't even imagine-- horrible, evil, messy things." Crowley then glows his red eyes at Sam and he continues to say, "And I've loved... every... damn... minute." Crowley take out the devil's trap bullet out of him and he stands up and he says, "So, thank you, Sam, for reminding me who I really am." As Sam goes to step forward, with a wave of Crowley's hand he tosses Sam away and Crowley looks down at the hex bag and his eyes go back to normal and he says, "Powerful magic. Might have worked on any other demon. But me? Please." Crowley then burns the hex bag and as Sam reaches for the demon blade, Crowley flicks it away. As Crowley is about to snap his fingers to kill Sam, he says, "I could you. Snap my fingers. Easiest thing in the world. From here on, I want you to know that the only reason you're alive is because I allowed it. And I want you to deliver a message. You tell that ginger whore that I gave her a chance to walk away, and she spat in my face. So, now... she'll never see me coming." Then Crowley disappears and Sam breathes out. Sam then takes out his phone and he calls Rowena, and he says, "It didn't work." Rowena says, "W-what do you mean?" Sam says, "I mean that juiced-up hex bag you gave me-- Crowley set it on fire. Looks like you're not as tough as thought you were." Rowena says, "Uh, but you still have him trapped." Sam scoffs and says, "Yeah. Not so much." Rowena sighs and says, "Bloody hell." Sam says, "What am I supposed to, Rowena? How am I supposed to kill him?" Rowena says, "Oh, I'm sure you'll figure something out." Sam says, "What?" Rowena says, "You've got a job to do, Samuel. Get it done." Rowena hangs up and Sam sighs frustratedly. Later, Liz finds where the Stynes live, and she finds the whole place massacred. Liz sighs and then calls Sam, and he says, "Yeah?" Liz shakily says, "Sam." Sam worriedly says, "Liz, what's wrong? Did you find him?" Liz says, "Not yet. But I'm at the Styne estate in Louisiana, and Dean was here." Sam says, "You sure?" Liz says, "I'm sure." Sam says, "How bad is it?" Liz says, "There are three bodies down here and more than a dozen upstairs in the main house. He killed everyone, and brutally. It's literally a bloodbath." Sam says, "All right. I'm on my way." Liz says, "No. Don't bother, Sam. The GPS says he's headed north." Sam says, "Where?" Liz softly says, "Home. Dean's coming home." Liz hangs up and later, she walks into Dean shooting a kid in the head and she says, "Dean!" Dean looks at Liz with a hard face and Liz sees no love in his eyes. Liz says, "What did you do? You killed a kid." Dean says, "I took down a monster because that's what I do. And I will continue to do that until..." Liz says, "Until you become the monster." Dean nods and says, "Leave me alone, Liz." Liz says, "I can't do that. I have to get that thing off your arm." Dean says, "I told you to shut it down." Liz says, "You did, but I'm still trying to cure you." Dean says, "Like hell." Liz says, "We can read the book now." Dean says, "Oh, so, what? So, you might find a spell that might take this crap off my arm? Well, even if you do, what's it gonna cost? 'Cause magic like that does not come free. No, it comes with a price that you pay in blood. So, thanks, but I'm good." As Dean turns around, Liz grabs Dean's arm and she says, "No!" Liz faces Dean and she says, "You're not. Maybe you could fight the Mark for years, maybe centuries, like Cain did, but you cannot fight it forever. So, if there's even a small chance that we can save you, I won't let you walk out of this room." Dean says, "Oh, you think you have a choice." Liz says, "The Mark is changing you." Dean says, "You're wrong." Liz says, "Am I? Because the Dean Winchester that I love would never have murdered that kid." Dean says, "Yeah, well... that Dean's always been kind of a dick." As Dean goes to walk away, Liz puts her hand on Dean's chest stopping him and she says, "Dean... I don't want to have to hurt you." Dean says, "I don't think that's gonna be a problem." Dean grabs Liz arm and twists it and then punches Liz in the face. Then he starts throwing punches at Liz and she blocks them and pushes Dean away with a flicker of her hand and takes out an angel blade to hurt Dean, but not as much as with her powers. Liz swings at Dean and he grabs her arm and twists it and places the blade in front of her stomach and he angrily says, "Now, I told you to let it go and you got Charlie killed. It's your fault she's dead! Now, I'm gonna make you pay." Liz pleads, "This isn't you." Dean smirks and says, "Oh, sweetheart, yes, it is." Dean then stabs Liz in the stomach, and she gasps, and Dean lets go of Liz and drops her to the ground and he walks out the room without a care. Liz looks down to see a lot of blood coming out of her abdomen and she hears a yell, "No!" Liz looks over to see her son's heartbroken face and he rushes over to her, and he has tears rolling down his cheeks and says, "Mom!" Liz smiles weakly at her son and Henry places his mom's head in his lap and he says, "What happened?" Liz coughs up blood and says, "It doesn't matter." Henry cries, "No, no, no! You can't leave me. I need you." Liz places a shakily hand on her son's face and says, "I love you." Henry sobs and says, "Stay with me, stay with me." Henry watches his mom closes his eyes and he sobs over her body, and he cries and says, "No." Henry is a little rubbish at witchcraft, so he does a spell that shows what happened in the past and he does the spell to see who did this to his mom and he's shocked and angry at his dad for doing this to her. Henry looks at his dead mom's body and says, "Don't worry, mom. I'm going to fix this. I promise."
