"I miss you."

"...I miss you too."

China hung up. Gods, he shouldn't have said that. He ran his fingers through his hair, sighing. "Fuck... I shouldn't have said that..."

"Said what?" someone said.
China turned and saw North on the door frame. "Is something wrong?"

"Oh- uhm- yeah, I'm fine," he said, "Just- It's nothing. "

North approached China, crossing his arms. "Are you sure?"

"I'm fine, why are you up anyways? It's late."

"Couldn't sleep."

"Again?" he asked, "Why?"

"I'm not used to sleeping anywhere else except my home."

"That's bullshit, you barely sleep even in North Asia," China said, "Something's bothering you."

"And that wouldn't be your problem," North said indifferently. "Why are you even worried anyways?"

"Because I'm your friend and that's what friends do," he said, laying on his bed. "Gods, I'm so tired."

"I'll go back to my room, see you tomorrow," the Korean said.

"Wait- Uhm, are you going to sleep soon?" he asked, sitting up.

"Most likely not."

"Can you stay here for a moment then? Just to give me company?"

North gave him a confused look. "What?"

"I still don't want to sleep," he said.

"You said that it was late, why don't you go to sleep?"

"I said that I still don't want to sleep."

"Alright, fine," North sighed. He'll never understand this man.
He sat beside him, as China lay on his bed.

"Hey, North?"

"Hm?"

"Have you ever wondered... What if we never became dukes? Would life be easier?"

"Definitely easier."

"Or if we were born differently and had a different life," he said, "Imagine we were dragons fighting in a revolution, wouldn't that be interesting?"

"Well, I guess that would be easier than being duke of North Asia," North said, lighting up a cigarette.

"How come you always have a cig with you?" China asked, "You know that shit harms your lungs."

"Let fate do what it wants to do," he said nonchalantly "I've already been through worse."

"Don't say that," he said, "We'll always help you when you're having trouble."

North didn't say anything, instead kept smoking.
China looked at him. He just... Didn't know what to feel. Pity?

"Hey, North?"

"Yes?"

"Remember that..." he started but stopped.

"What?"
