"Gabby, I need you to make a run for me today. I just need you to drop this off at Skulls house, can you do that?" My dad asked as I stepped out of my bedroom. He held up a small brown sack and tossed it over to me.
"Ah sure, is there gonna be anyone else there?" I asked and he nodded, "a few Veteranos are going over there but I have to handle something with Spooky." I nodded and slipped it into my backpack before starting my walk to Skulls house.
There were a few cars in the driveway and the front door was wide open. I couldn't hear or see anyone inside so I loudly knocked on the door frame.
"Come in!" Someone yelled but it was muffled, when I stepped into the house Skull had opened the basement door and motioned for me to follow him. My dad wouldn't set me up right? Right about now I felt like I was about to get murdered.
"Lil Diabla, the guys, guys this is Lil Diabla." He introduced me to the 4 other men sitting around the table, I'm assuming they were playing Poker from the giant stacks of cash in the middle of the table.
"Hey guys, here Uncle Skully." I joked making him smiled wildly. "See, told you I would be Uncle Skully!" He said punching the guy next to him hard in the arm. The guy groaned rubbing the spot.
I handed him the sack with a smile. "I better get to school, bye Uncle Skully." I joked again but the smile on his face made me think he wasn't joking.
"I'll walk you out." He said following me up the stairs. "I heard what you said to that prophet at school." He chuckled. "Fuck him, he's fucking dumb." He smiled at me, "I knew you would be a Santo at heart, I'll see you later? I'll be at yours when you get off school." I nodded before he pulled me into a hug.
After saying my final goodbyes I started the walk to school. I was already late so I grabbed a Cigarette and took my time getting to school.
Smashing out the cigarette I stepped on to school grounds. It was about half way through first hour so I made my way towards that class.
"Nice of you to join us." The teacher looked annoyed as I walked in but I just shrugged and took my seat next to Andrea. "Where we're you?" She whispered trying not to disturb the class more than I already had. "Had to run something over to Uncle Skullys." I chuckled and she looked at me. "You call him that too?" I nodded and we both chuckled.
"Girls, am I interrupting something?" The teacher asked and we both snapped our eyes to her. Faces bright red, we kept our mouths shut the rest of the class.
"We have to go to Ruby's today after school, something about scheming for Cesar?" I shrugged at her words and followed her to our second class, the one that just so happened to be the one with that stupid prophet kid.
When I took a seat the kid had his head down against the desk. If it wasn't for him peaking out from his little hiding spot I would have thought he was sleeping.
"Hey ah, Lil Diabla?" The guy spoke up making the ones around us gasp. I looked over at him, his face was completely covered in bruises and one eye was nearly swollen shut. "Sorry 'bout yesterday." He said softly before putting his head back down.
-
"Hurry before they leave without us." Andrea whined as I grabbed my backpack off the ground. "Girl chill, the bell rang 5 seconds ago." Rolling her eyes she grabbed my wrist and pulled me off towards the entrance of school.
"Jesus, about time!" Jamal yelled glaring at both of us. Walking our way towards Rudy's I pulled a cigarette out and lit it. Instantly sighing in relief.
I was even more relieved when we walked into Ruby's house. They led us down the hall and I took a seat on one of the beds while Cesar sat next to me, the other four sitting across from us.
"Okay so here is the idea we have." Monse started then Ruby and Jamal overlapped her, all trying to talk at the same time. I glanced at Cesar as he looked back and forth between the three.
"Yo! One at a time, I'm not following." Cesar shrugged pointing to Ruby who's arm shot up. He shifted back and forth on the bed, he was either excited or nervous.
"We've been chewing on this for the last two weeks, and it's finally time to move forward with a plan." Ruby said excitedly making Monse and Jamal glare at him.
"A plan for what?" Cesar asked confused as was Andrea and I.
"Getting you out of the gang." Monse said with a duh tone making me and Andrea snort at the same time earning a glare from Monse. "Wait you got jumping in?" I asked and Cesar nodded.
Cesar instantly started laughing, me joining with him. Did they really think it would be that easy to get him out of the gang?
"You're serious?" He asked, Jamal, Ruby and Monse giving him a serious look. "Oh, my gosh. No! No, no, no, no. There is no out. You're being naive. Once you're jumped in, you can't get out. Unless, you get jumped out, and that's not, you know, an option."
"Why not?" Jamal asked, "they beat you till you die." Jamal's face dropped, "oh, I see your dilemma."
"Death isn't the only option. Ruby?" Monse said turning to Ruby who stood up like he was giving a presentation.
"So after copious amounts of research, I've formulated a theory that all great things come in threes: The Holy Trinity, primary colors, Destiny's Child..."
"D.C. started with four members." Jamal pointed out making me roll my eyes.
"But they weren't big until they were there." Ruby said grabbing a stack of binders out of his closet and handing one to each of us. "Which is why there are three common denominators to end any and all hostile situations. I call them the three M's." I rolled my eyes again before laying back on the bed and pulled my phone out. There was no point in listening to this conversation, even I know there was no hope of getting Cesar out of the gang. He's in it now.
"Rollerworld." I heard Monse and Ruby complain as Jamal came over to take a seat next to Cesar. "It's real and $50k is still out there! The dudes that robbed RollerWorld got put away, but the money was never recovered."
"In the 80s!" Ruby groaned.
"And the rumors are still rampant! What about The Goonies? Some of those kids thought it was BS too until they found the treasure. And they weren't even—"
"Brown. We're brown well most of us." Monse said cutting Jamal off and sending me a slight smile. "Only white kids find treasure."
"Gabby's white, she could help us find it." Jamal shrugged making the rest groan.
"Guys I gotta dip, um good luck with your plan." I said waving off before walking out of the house and making the way to mine which wasn't too far.
I pulled a cigarette out of my back before lighting it. When I got closer I glanced at Spooky's house he was stood on the front porch talking into the phone with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. He was shirtless with just a pair of black basketball shorts on. God he was fine, sucks he had to be so old.
When he glanced at me I sent him a soft smile before making my way up to my own house. Thankfully using the house key I finally had since my dad felt bad I got locked out. He made me promise I would at least try to make it through the whole week of school without getting pissed and coming home early.
I went to my room to change into a pair of black comfy shorts and a black sports bra. I flopped onto the couch and pulled a random movie from Netflix up. Knowing damn well I was just going to nap.
