A figure sped through the busy streets of Liyue. Though it was night the streets were still bustling with activity. The figure ran and ran, fuelled with guilt, hatred and something else...something Baishi never thought she would feel for anyone else.
Yearning.
Eventually she reached a secluded spot, overlooking the famous sea of clouds, she sat there thinking to herself.
Kaedehara Kazuha was so beautiful, so sweet and innocent looking.
Nobody would ever suspect such gentle man of the murder of his own friends.
Baishi remembered his quiet voice laced with honey, his deep red eyes, his soft hair, his gentle hands, cupping Baishi's face and drawing her closer. Baishi remembered the intimacy of that night. It was days ago, the stars were out and she was on the balcony of the jade chamber.
She had no tears left to cry and so she just stood there in agony, looking out across Liyue. He had seen her broken expression, her eyes full of pain and he had come, he had used his vision to gracefully land on the balcony.
He was so comforting, so loving, so kind. Baishi had always been chasing after Ningguang's love but here, here was a man who seemed to truly care about her. Baishi knew she was a fool, how could she love a man who she had barely known a day of her life? How could she choose him over the woman she had followed to the end of the earth for decades?
Yet there was something so enticing about Kazuha, something that made her want to leave everything to join him. To trust him, to follow him, to do whatever he asked for and that's exactly what she did. Deep down Baishi knew that it was wrong, but she was too weak to fight the need to please, to get someone who loved her back (or at least pretended to) was all she ever wanted, was she going to let it all go to save the life of the woman who had taken her first love away? Her mind strayed to Beidou. The way she had waltzed right into their lives with her tragic backstory, her heroic deeds, her gorgeous face.
Baishi tasted blood. She remembered holding the head with that very same face on it, hoisting it up the mast as a flag for triumph. Quietly slipping off the boat, she remembered turning to watch the red clad figure row away. 'A secret place my love' he had said gently caressing her cheek 'a place where we'll be alone, just us and nobody will know what you've done. I'll protect you my love, you deserve that at least. I'll give you more though, so so much more' she had felt so blissfully happy in his arms, so safe and secure.
Ironic, the hands of a killer was her safety, the words of a psychopath were her peace.
Baishi sat waiting for him, he had promised to return and she didn't doubt him, not for a second.
She heard the rustle of leaves and spun around. Kaedehara Kazuha stood with the moon reflecting off his beautiful face, so innocent for a man who was the furthest thing from it. His lips curled in a smile at the sight of her 'Hello my dear' Baishi gazed at him in adoration but something was different this time..something wasn't right?
His smile turned into a sneer, his eyes darkening. The blade of his samurai sword glinted in the moonlight. 'Kazuha?' tentatively Baishi stepped towards him, false hope blinding her from her fate.
'You're not going to...surely not?' she whispered, her voice edged with fear. 'Baishi, Baishi, Baishi' he drawled, watching her face change from love to fear, taking pleasure in it. 'What is my love? Are you scared? Scared, I'll kill you?' he let out a sharp, humourless laugh as he watched her cower beneath him.
'I suppose even you couldn't trust me? You who claimed to love me? You were just a liar' voice dripping with scorn he turned away, head bowed. 'No! No. I'm sorry Kazuha, forgive me. I never thought of you like that! I do love you, I do, I do, please I can't lose you too, I'll do anything!'. He turned. 'Anything?' he asked. Baishi didn't hesitate 'Anything'
He stopped as if to consider before letting a small smile play on his lips 'If you trust me Baishi..if you trust me with your life, jump off this cliff and fall to the rocks below.' she gasped but he wasn't finished 'and trust that i'll catch you Baishi, trust a taker of lives to save yours, do that and i'll be yours and you'll be mine, forever. I'll love you like you've always wished to be loved, all for one task of trust' Baishi looked into her lovers eyes and felt a tug at her heart, everything she ever wanted just for a little tumble, he would save her! he would save her...right?
She nodded vigorously and when Kazuha motioned for her to go she leapt, through the cool night air, flying above the glittering rocks below, sharp as daggers as she plummeted spreaing out her arms, waiting for Kazuha to use his vision to soar up with her into the night sky, but nothing happened.
Baishi realised it too late, she couldn't do anything to stop it,she was tumbling down, down, down. She heard Kazuha's sweet melodic whisper in her ears
'Once a killer always a killer~'.
She turned her head to cry out for help. A pair of cruel red eyes stared back, watching as the girl with a heavy heart plummeted to her death, the love for him fading along with her life.
He turned and sauntered off.
Trust, such a foolish thing, who would trust a murderer with their life?
