"Sun will you please just give me my phone back!"
This was the third time this week that Sun had stolen my phone, but the first time I've actually caught him with it. I have no clue how he keeps getting it or what he does once he has it.
"What phone, friend? I don't see a phone!"
It's been a month since I first started working here and it's funny to see how close I've gotten with both Sun and Moon. The way we fell so quickly into our friendship would be quite comical to anyone outside the plex but simply felt natural for us.
When I freeze to catch my breath after chasing Sun with my phone for at least 15 minutes, Sun realizes and quickly turns around to check on me.
"Friend, are you okay? You're not having another freeze, are you? It's been so long since you've had one..." Sun asked, voice softening at the last bit.
I forgot about those. Since neither Sun nor Moon knows what's happening when I go unresponsive (and quite frankly, I don't either), they dubbed it a freeze.
It has been a couple of weeks since my last nightmare, hasn't it? While I'm glad they're gone, it's strange how quickly they came and went. Sometimes I can't help but think they'll come back worse than the first time.
Remembering that Sun had asked if I was okay, I responded, "Yeah, Sun, I'm okay. It's not another freeze. I'm just catching my breath."
"Oh, of course, friend. Also, it's five minutes till closing."
"It's WHAT! Sun you've had me chasing you for how long?!"
Immediately running behind the security desk, I quickly clock out and log off the computer. Shoving my belongings into my bag I'm about to run out the door when I remember the whole reason I was chasing Sun in the first place.
"Sun can I have my phone back? Please!" I'm begging at this point. I don't want to break my streak of leaving before closing but if Sun doesn't give me my phone back I will.
"Ah, right! Sorry, Sunshine."
Both of our eyes went wide as we realized what he'd just said. He's never called me anything but friend or my name since I started working here.
"What'd you just-" I started but was quickly interrupted by Sun pushing me out the door and rambling.
"Well isn't it just so, so late? You'd best get on out before you get locked in, wouldn't want to mess up that streak of yours. Here's your phone. Have a good night and get plenty of rest. Goodbye!"
And with that, the door was shut in my face. What was that? Standing there wondering what the hell that was, the closing announcement played, indicating that I had about a minute and 30 seconds to get my ass out of that building or I'd be locked in. Running as fast as my legs could carry me, I made it to the main atrium right as the doors were being locked. Fear shot through me as I watched the rolling garage door start to close.
Quickly resuming my running, I was able to slide in between the floor and the door as it shut seconds after. It was a small space but once I pushed open the door and stepped out I could relax a little more. That was too close. Sun is for sure getting a talking-to tomorrow.
Tomorrow. Oh, shoot!
Tomorrow the daycare would be hosting a Thanksgiving lunch for the kids. And it needed decorations. It's midnight. How the hell am I supposed to get decorations now?
Getting into my car I pull out my phone to check what stores might be open. Opting for a Dollar General near my apartment, I close my phone and drive off to the store. Once I parked, very terribly might I add, I rushed into the store. Quickly grabbing anything and everything that looked even remotely thanksgiving-ish, I piled it all in a cart and rushed to the register. After being checked out and apologizing profusely for coming in so late, I went back to my car and loaded up the decorations.
