Who Knows What a Head Engineer Does?

The rest of the night went very smoothly for us. I was able to get both Sun and Moon cleaned for maintenance tomorrow in a little under 4 hours, and by the time it came for me to leave, we had cleaned every nook and cranny of the daycare. The morning after had gone by in a flash. It was maintenance day and all Sun and I had to do was wait for a call or email from someone in maintenance that gave us the go-ahead to head down to the parts and service room. So, for most of the morning, it was just me and Sun goofing off and playing games.

We were in the middle of a game of hide and seek when an email appeared on my fazwatch. It read:

"Dear Daycare Attendant Assistant,

You are cleared to bring the animatronic down to parts and service. Please be punctual.

Thanks,

Barry Donovan

Secretary to Head Engineer: Sage Keen"

I didn't want to cut our little game short, but this Barry guy has made it a point that maintenance is not something we don't want to be late for. So, stepping from my hiding spot in the ball pit, I call out to Sun, quickly grabbing his attention.

"I found you! Now it's my turn to hide, right?!"

"Sorry, Sun. We just got called for maintenance. We gotta go now."

"Aww, man... oh, oh! But what if it's Miss Sage? That'll make this trip so much better!"

"Well, we will just have to go see huh?"

"Oh, of course, of course!"

Now with a spring in his step Sun rushed out the door and down to parts and service with me running a couple of feet behind trying to catch up. It didn't take long for us to reach the two red doors that marked the entrance to parts and service. Sun's walk slowed as we reached the doors, suddenly nervous again. Finally catching up, I crouch down a little trying to catch my breath after chasing after the long-legged animatronic.

"Alright Sun, you ready to head in now?" I asked, breath still short.

"I- I guess so. Ready as I can be," he said with worry lining his voice.

Quickly straightening up, I step towards the door and push them open. Parts and service is a dreary place. Its walls were bare and there were exposed pipes all around. In the center of the room stood a large plexiglass cylinder with what looked to be a chair on the inside, likely where the animatronics sat for maintenance. In front of the cylinder, stood a woman typing on a small computer, fingers hard at work typing up something I couldn't see.

The moment Sun saw the woman, he was overjoyed, quickly rushing up to her and shouting, "Miss Sage! Oh, how we missed you!"

No sooner had the woman turned to face Sun was she scooped up by the large animatronic and held close in an embrace.

Laughing the woman, Sage, gave her own greeting to the sun, "Hiya Sunny! I missed you too."

After returning the hug to the animatronic, Sage was set down gently. Quickly dusting herself off, I was able to take in her features. She was around my age and had a good couple of inches on me in height. Her short brown hair was slightly curly and framed her face delicately, her eyes matched her hair in color but looked as if they held the answers to every question ever asked in her lifetime. Her clothes gave off an interesting aesthetic: witchy in a way but still comfortable and modern. She wore a black dress with long, flowy sleeves that were adorned with silver details that I couldn't quite make out from a distance. Her neck held at least 4 necklaces one of which held a small crystal. Her earrings were hard to miss as they were long and quite shiny and held a tiny sun and moon trinket on the ends.
