It's been an hour, exactly thirty six minutes since Oluga disappeared and the only logical thing we can do was to go to the police station but the crazy lunatic lady sent us a text saying if we involve the police he dies. How do i know if she is a lady? She called me on my phone as well as i was arguing with Masindi about going to the police station.
"Hi Ndavhe, i have Oluga with me here. He's a good boy, i wouldn't want to kill him but don't push me...so cooperate with me and I will be kind to your little brother. And don't you dare try and involve the police..." That is how the call ended
I have been sitting in this room, where everything seems to be stagnant and the clock is taking its time. I have no idea where Oluga is, or who the lady is, i couldn't even trace her voice maybe from my past encounters and Masindi also have no idea who she is. So for now we are going to sit, and wait for this to unwind, make sense because right now it doesn't.
The door budge open and Thabang enters. He looks at me then walks to Masindi who is still sobbing on the couch.
I forgot about her, i have been lost in my own mind trying to make sense of what is happening. Who would want to kill my brother, who would even want to take him?
"What happened?" Thabang asks Masindi as he takes her in his arms
She bury her face in his chest, he looks at me with his face hard.
"Someone took Oluga, when we were outside. Not even for 15 minutes, he was gone. No sound, nothing..." I say
Thabang clench his jaws.
"She called Masindi and told her that she has something that belongs to her. Threatening me not to call the police..." I continue
Thabang exhales...
"And the number?" he asks
"It's a private number" i answer
He nods, then looks at Masindi.
"Do you have any idea who she could be?" Thabang asks
She shakes her head.
"I don't even know what I have that belongs to her" she answers
My phone rings, it's an unknown number. I look at Thabang who is still settled on the couch with Masindi.
"Put it on speaker" he says
I answer the phone and put it on speaker.
"Hi Ndavhe, i knew you are a good boy and wouldn't run to the police. I need something though from you, you know in real house where mommy and daddy used to live, yes there. At the back of the house, there's a treasure, something that belongs to me. I need you to dig it up for up." She says
"Where is Oluga?" I ask
"The only time you'll have to worry about him is if you waste my time and disobey me. Now be a good boy and start digging." She hangs up the phone
I feel my whole body cringe, is this a game?
"Ndavhe, don't space out now. The faster we get this done, the faster we will be able to get Oluga back." Thabangs says getting up
"What are doing?" Masindi asks
"Getting ready to dig, we are not going to get Oluga back by sitting here and crying now are we?" Thabang sounds annoyed but his face still looks calm.
He looks at me.
"are we going?" He asks
I get up and walk to the back and get a spade and a shovel.I find Thabang waiting for me at the front, then we walk in silence to my home. We make our way to the back and find a red rose at the corner of the house.
"If she knew the spot why didn't she dig herself?" Thabang asks
He's thinking out loud, not looking at me.
"Some kind of mind games maybe?" I answer
He looks at me.
"That's what i think also" he answers then take a spade from me
"We will need a pick" he says
I walk at the door, at least i remembered to take the keys. I unlock the door and get in. I find my mothers pick take it, walk back outside and find Thabang already digging.
"Let me start" i say
He stops then steps aside. I start digging, the ground is so soft now i feel anger boiling inside of me. This woman could've just dug up whatever was in here and let my brother go in peace, but no she didn't. She wants me to do it for her, why? Is she really looking for something, or trying to show me something?
"Ndavhe, let me help you" Thabang says with a shovel
He also looks like he's deep in thought.
Now I'm thinking about what the tressure is, what will we find down here? He get in the hole and dig again, this time using the remaining strength i have to get as deep as I can.
I get out the Thabang, gets in with a shovel, not long after we have went in deep, shoulders deep. How far down must we dig?
"What the?" Thabang stop then takes out a briefcase covered in soil he gives it to me
"There's something in here" Thabang says
I wanted to open the briefcase but now my attention has shifted to Thabang who is holding on to a fibula, he shollows looking at me.
I know what that is, but what is it doing there with a briefcase?
"That's a human bone" i state
Thabang nods gently.
"We have a skull here, and the rest of the bones. What is this?" Thanking asks me
My throat is dry, so i swallow.
"A dead person, and briefcase." i answer now kneeling down putting the briefcase in front of me.
i open it, i feel my whole body weak and a flood of heat hit my upper body, i feel nauseous. Thabang gets out of the whole and kneel beside me, the doom on his face tells me he is as shocked as i am.
"What the fuck?" He says after a minute looking at me
"Who put this here?" i ask Thabang
"The question is who buried this here?" He swallows
My phone rings almost making me jump. Its her...i answer and put her on speaker
"Where is my treasure?" She asks
I clear my throat looking at whats in front of me.
"Its here" i answer
"Good, now i am sure you have acquainted ourselves with my sister. Don't worry she's no longer that chatty, now that she is in bones." She says and i cant supress the urge to throw up so i get up and rush to the corner of the house and throw up. My intestines are irritated for real because I am taking out everything.
I walk back, and pick up the phone.
"What is this, who are you?" I ask
You should ask Masindi, but I am surprised you don't know me Ndavheleseni. I just found my treasure hidden at the back of your house and you pretend not to know me. Don't hurt my feelings like that..." She answers
"Is this some sort of game?" I ask
"No, but i like games. Like the ones with bones and Steinmetz Pink diamonds. But don't worry it's about to get even more interesting from here, like more diamonds and bones." She says
"You are crazy" i say annoyed
"Well, our next treasure hunt is at Masindi's house. Oops, her real house not that one. Keep my diamonds safe, and clean up the mess you made." She hangs up
I want to hit something, so i hit the ground and the pain is bearable making me squirm like a child.
"Who is this?" Thabang asks me
"I don't know, just like how this bones got here. I don't know" i say agitated
Thabang takes his phone and dials it, place it on his ear.
"I need you to trace a phone..." He says
He gets up.
"Yes, i also need back up here..." He says then hang up then type something on his phone then out it on his pocket.
"What now?" I ask Thabang
"We bury the sister, if she wants her she will ask us to dig again." He sounds even more annoyed. We get home and find Masindi on the phone but she hang up as she sees us walking in the kitchen. Thabang looks at her then her hand, and walks to her. She swallows then looks at me, like she is scared of something.
"Who were you talking to?" Thabang asks her
"who are you?" Masindi asks Thabang
"What?" Thabang asks
"She was telling me about the man i married, how dirty he is. How he makes his money by killing people..." She push him backwards.
"She just told us you know about her hidden treasure, is this you trying to retaliate before we even ask about that?" Thabang asks
"What?" Masindi asks then looks at me
"What hidden treasure?" She asks
"In your house, your real house." I answer
She looks confused.
"She told me that your father hid her sister at the back of your house, after he killed her...so how do I both of you are not lying right now?" Masindi asks now crying
"How do we know you are not lying also, working with her? She called you first, and said you have something that belongs to her..." I raise my voice
"Well, you found diamonds and dead bones at the back of your house. You forgot to mention that to me just now...who killed that person Ndavhe?" Masindi fires back
Thabang's phone rings, he answers it. He puts it on speaker...
"Hi my love, you miss me?" The same voice speaks
Thabang laughs...
"Who the fuck are you and what do you want?" He asks furiously
"Still as aggressive as i like it, i wonder if you still like that in bed. Well maybe Sindi will give me the details later..." she says playfully
"Why are you doing this?" Thabang asks
"Go to Masindi house, her lovely ex husband has a key he kept in his chestdrawer. It opens up a safe where the rest of my diamonds are...you'll know who i am in the next thirty minutes when you have everything I need. And Thabang, don't you dare act smart with me. I still have your boy with me..." She hang up
"Lets go" Thabang says then walks out, we both follow him in silence.Masindi directed us until we reach a house abandoned, I'm guessing is because she no longer stays here. She gets out then unlocks the door...
"So you have have the key?" Thabang asks her suspiciously
But she doesn't say anything but walks inside, straight to the bedroom. We find her standing by the chest drawer holding on to the keys.
"What is going on?" Masindi cries in disbelief
"She is on to us, and i have feeling im the next one." Thabang speaks
"What does this mean?" i ask
"A mess is what it means."
My phone rings...I don't hesitate but answer.
"So cooperative, I'm sure you are dying to know who I am...come outside." She says then hang up
I literally ran outside and to my surprise i find Oluga standing outside.
"Hi Ndavhe..." A lady's voice from the bench
She is sitting holding on to a staff in her hand, wearing a black suit and high heels. Masindi is the second one then Thabang...she smiles at both then back at me.
"A good family reunion, how nostalgic" she says
"Do you know her?" I ask Thabang and Masindi
The shake their heads.
"I will introduce myself properly, I am Ndinae Matidze, Oluga and Ndavheleseni's biological mother." She smiles at me
"What?" Masindi exclaims
"Thabang, you remember me my love?" She asks looking at himI have to end this one here but I'd like to hear from you. What did you think about the chapter?
Is Ndinae who she says she is or is this some kind of mind game?
