Chapter 5: rescued

The next few days didn't go too well for the warden either.
Again and again Infinite tried to get his hands on him, but he found protection near Orbot and Doctor Eggman. Luckily he had decided not to inflict Knuckles with such torment as Infinite did.
Despite the protection the two offered him, he felt bad.
He stopped eating and drank very little.
Eggman's two assistants tried to tempt him with various foods, but he simply had no appetite.
Even Eggman had worried about him a little too, unlike the Jakal.
He just laughed and said he wasn't going to get very far with his food protest. And also that he wouldn't have to torture him anymore since his will was already broken.
It was partly so.
Knuckles had no hope that anyone would come to his rescue. Sonic would just about match up against Infinite and Tails would then have to take on the robots including Metal Sonic along with Amy.
But the chance was slim that they would even make it here.
Of course, Knuckles had tried to escape himself, but hadn't got very far when he was picked up by Metal Sonic again.
So he had no choice but to save his strength and wait for help.

He was lying on the doctor's work surface since it was warmest there.
Suddenly, a loud alarm siren sounded and a red light shone across the room. Knuckles woke with a start and watched the scientist hit the keys on his computer in a panic.
"I can not believe that!" yelled Eggman angry.
Knuckles sat up and stared at the screen. The display showed 3 people fighting these Eggman robots.
Then Infinite got involved and took over the little one. The largest took care of Metal Sonic.
Knuckles jumped up excitedly.
His friends had come to rescue him.
"7 minutes to self-destruct."
"Knuckles. It's not my fault you're dying now. Thank your hedgehog friend." murmured the Dr. started his Eggmachine, grabbed Orbot and Cubot and flew away.
The cat immediately ran in any direction. He had to get out of here as soon as possible, otherwise there would soon be no guardian anymore.
But the door was locked.
Desperately he looked around for another way out. Unfortunately there was none.
He was trapped.
Hoping that Sonic could hear him, he scratched against the door meowing, but no one came.
"3 minutes to self-destruct."
The last thing he could do now was look for a little hiding place where he might survive.
He just crawled into a corner when the door swung open.
"I'm at the doctor's headquarters now. Do you have the Master Emerald? ... Good. I'll bring you the data."
"Hurry up."
The hedgehog looked around. When he saw the cat his eyes widened.
"Change of plans. I can't make it out of here in time if I still have to collect the data. Also have to rescue someone."
The hedgehog bent down to the cat and only then did Knuckles realize it wasn't Sonic. "Hey little one. How about I take you out of here?" He picked it up gently. Apparently he knew how to lift cats. Some, especially inexperienced people mostly grabbed cats by the neck, but his hands first grabbed his belly, then his butt. Then he picked him up gently
Red eyes, black red fur, lavender scent...
It was Shadow the Hedgehog.
