BIBLE
Bible had been trying to avoid Build for a while now, his heart aching from the silent treatment he'd received after his confession.
Though he pretended not to be hurt, keeping his guard up, it was hard not to feel the sting of rejection.
He talked to Build only when it was convenient for them both, carefully maintaining his distance.
When they returned home, Bible unexpectedly came down with a fever, and in a way, he welcomed it.
It seemed like the perfect excuse to distance himself and begin moving on from his feelings for Build.
He'd been at home for nearly four days, and today was the day of Build's big event. Bible had informed P'Pond about his fever but made sure no one would know until after the event.
He didn't want attention shifting to him and away from Build.
Lying in bed, Bible picked up his phone, tweeting his support for Build's event.
As soon as he hit send, he set his phone aside, feeling the familiar throbbing of a headache returning.
Exhausted, he closed his eyes and drifted off again.
A while later, he woke up feeling slightly better than earlier. His brother Jo came into the room with some medicine.
"I bought you medicine. Are you feeling any better? One of your colleagues came by earlier. I let him in," Jo said, handing him the pills.
Bible put on a shirt and followed Jo out of the room, assuming it was Us who had dropped by.
But when he reached the stairs, he froze.
The person standing there wasn't Us—it was Build.
The person he'd been avoiding for days. The person he loved the most.
Trying to play it cool despite his surprise, Bible almost stumbled on the stairs in his rush to get down.
As he reached Build, he simply asked,
"Why?" His voice came out flat, confused.
Build seemed embarrassed by the question, taking a deep breath before answering.
"I, uh, brought you porridge, knowing you had a fever, and, uh, you know? This porridge named peace offering. I cooked it myself," Build explained nervously, holding out the porridge.
Bible found himself wanting to laugh at the absurdity of the "peace offering" porridge but restrained himself.
He took the container from Build, placed it on the kitchen table, and smiled.
Build looked visibly relieved, returning the smile, his dimples showing.
"I missed you," Build whispered, his head lowering as if he was ashamed to admit it.
"I missed you too," Bible thought to himself, though he didn't say it aloud.
