The school was preparing for a big dance. It was apparently one of the oldest traditions in Hillerska's history. Everyone would dress up in old clothes and wigs. And everyone was supposed to write a love letter for the person they had a crush on anonymously, and then if you found the person who wrote the letter you went to the Valentine bal together. Out of all the weird traditions Hillerska had, this one was quite cute. I sat by my keyboard in my bedroom, alone. I played with the keys and found a nice little melody. I could not read sheet music correctly. I could tell the notes apart while looking at the sheet, but I could not read it fast enough when I played. I was used to playing by ear. If I could find the note with my voice, I could find it on the keyboard too. I sang the words that popped up in my mind. Thought of Wilhelm, who was probably playing chess with Alexander or something. I missed him when we were apart. I knew he missed me too.
"You sing really well," I heard a male voice behind me. I turned around. There was a tall guy with broad shoulders standing in the doorway to my bedroom. I didn't even notice him sneaking up on me.
"What?" I replied.
"I was headed to the toilet, but then I heard you sing. Your sister missed the bus and I was helping dad out in the stables anyways, so I drove her home," he said. "I got my driver's licence recently so it is just fun to drive." I recognized him. I thought he was the son of one of mom's friends.
"Nice," I replied. "You are Lottie's son, right?"
"Yeah. My name is Marcus," Marcus said. I nodded. I recognized that name. He attended Marieberg, I was pretty sure.
"I am Simon," I replied. He of course knew who I was. Everyone in Bjärstad knew about the leaked sextape of me and Wille. Rosh and Ayoub had said that everyone at school had talked about it. About me. I had gotten the prince of Sweden into bed with me, so they were of course curious about it. Wille was not just nobility. He was royal. And apparently people were curious about every little thing he did.
"Yeah. We went to the same preschool I think," he said. When he said it, I had slight memories of that. I nodded. "I should get going. Have you been to the karaoke at Tompa's?" I shook my head. I had never done karaoke. I preferred singing on my own or in the school choir.
"No, I have never been," I replied.
"You should come sometime. With a voice like that you will floor the rest of us. You can add me on instagram if you want to," he said. I smiled and nodded.
"Okay," I said. He turned around and left me alone. I kept on playing the piano and singing. I wrote down some lyrics in a notebook. I did not know how it happened, but at last I had written a full love song. It was of course intended for Wilhelm. I wrote down the lyrics on a piece of paper. I decided to put it in Wille's locker the day after. If he did not ask me to the dance, I would ask him.

When I got to school the following morning I sneaked up to Wilhelm's locker and put the poem through the crack. I then went by my own locker to get my notebook and maths textbook. I never had loose papers in my locker, but when I opened there was one on top of my text books. I picked it up and looked at it. There was a little poem on it and a question if we would go to the dance together. He had not even signed his name, but I knew directly that it was Wilhelm who had put it there. I went into the classroom and sat down by the desk. I smiled as Wille entered the classroom. He wore a white collared shirt and an orange pullover. Blue jeans. He came up to me and sat down next to me.
"Hi," he said.
"Hi," I replied. "I found a cute little love letter in my locker. Should I assume it was from you?" He took my hand in his and nodded.
"Can I safely assume that the love letter I found in my locker was from you as well?" he replied. I nodded.
"You definitely can assume so," I said. I buried my face in his soft shirt. It smelled just like him.
"So we are going to the Valentine bal together then?" Wille asked me.
"Well those are the rules. You are stuck with me," I said. That made him giggle.
"That was my exact plan, pretty," he said. I kissed him. Then some of the girls entered the classroom.
"Do we have two little lovebirds who found love letters in their lockers maybe?" Felice teased.
"Wilhelm better ask Simon to sing his letter to him. I heard it yesterday and it was very cute," Sara commented.
"Are your love letter song lyrics?" Wilhelm asked. I nodded. He kissed me again and asked if I would sing it to him after class. I agreed.
"You two are too cute," Felice commented. "Fredrika got a letter yesterday. But unlike you, she does not know who sent it to her." I knew a lot of boys were sending love letters to all girls in class. It could be anyone.
"And no one has confessed to sending it?" I asked. Felice and Sara shook their heads. "And no clues to who they are?"
"No. That boy did not make his identity known," Felice said. I thought it was a bit weird. Why send a letter if you don't leave clues to who you are?
"What if it is not a boy who sent it?" Wille suggested. "I mean, I heard the boys write their poems yesterday and they did not hide their identities that well."
