Lost

I had lost Simon in the crowd of people on the way to the after party. It was okay though. I was with an old friend from my previous high school. From that few weeks before mom made me transfer to Hillerska. Mattias had just been there at the party. He of course knew someone, the right someone, to get in.

"So for how long have you and that songbird dated then?" Mattias asked me. That was funny, because Simon had just won one. The prize the winner at Melodifestivalen got was called "The songbird".

"In October our first year. But I had my eyes on him from the start. He sang a solo with the choir when I transferred to Hillerska and I was kind of mesmerised by his voice," I said. "And then he turned out to be an anti-monarchist and that made me fall completely for him." Mattias laughed. He of course knew I had been a prince. And I guess it was ironic that I, of all people, would like someone who at the core despised my family.

"Well anyone could tell that you hated being a prince, even at Victor Rydberg," Mattias commented. Victor Rydberg was the name of the school I had attended before Hillerska. "And he sings like a God and he seems really sweet." Mattias had briefly met Simon, who had then disappeared with his manager Anton. That was when I lost him. But we were going to the same party, and I assumed I would find him there anyway.

"He is," I said.

"So when did you realise you were not straight?" Mattias asked. "Did you know before?"

"Before him?" I asked. Mattias nodded. "No. He kind of turned my world upside down. Before we met I had a clear idea of who I was and what girls I was attracted to and not. And then he turned up there singing like a God and just had me questioning everything." Mattias laughed.

"So you had a full identity crisis then? That was not nice of him," Mattias said with a grin. I grinned too.

"Yeah," I said. "But I am happier now than I have ever been, Mattias. He is my literal sunshine."

"That's cute," Mattias said.

"So how about you, do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend?" I asked. Mattias was bi, and he had been quite open about it even when we started high school.

"Yeah. I have a really nice girlfriend. She could not come tonight, but maybe we could go on a double date sometime?" he replied.

"I will ask Simon," I said. "When I know where the hell he is." We had not entered the party yet. We were still in line.

"I would guess he is already inside. They are celebrating him, after all," Mattias said.
"Probably. I think his phone died, so I will have to hunt for him inside later," I said.

"He is not used to this, right?" Mattias asked. I shook my head. He was definitely not. He had of course been to a few parties at Hillerska and with Rosh and Ayoub, but a party here in Stockholm was not exactly what he was used to. We got inside and I looked around for a curly headed one.

"I will see you later. I am going to attempt to find my sweet boyfriend," I said. Mattias nodded and seemed to find some of his own friends. I was handed a drink from someone. It was not the cheap red cups we had at Hillerska. It looked like a real glass, but I assumed it was plastic.

"You have not happened to see my boyfriend?" I asked the girl who was standing behind the tray of drinks.

"Simon?" She asked. I nodded.

"Well he was here before. And I have not seen someone drink alcohol like that boy," she said. "I think he is on the dance floor." Simon did not drink. He had never done it before, at least. So I was a bit worried for him. I went out on the dancefloor and pretty soon I found my boyfriend. He was chatting with some dude, it looked like.
