Y/n POV
Things continued as normal after Newt made my brother a runner. Not only that, but the new girl woke up and Tommy and I got a chance to talk with her, which led us to learn her name is Teresa. It was all well in the glade—well, as well as it could be after my brother and Teresa's arrival—until I had a rude awakening."Y/n!" I hear as I'm being shaken awake. "Love! Wake UP!"
As I open my eyes, I see a panic stricken Newt, shaking my shoulder with his hand in an attempt to wake me up.
"Newt?" I say, confused. "What's going on?"
"We have to go, NOW."
Seeing the panic state he is currently in, I decided not to question it and quickly got up out of bed. Walking out of the hut, my eyes instantly widen upon seeing something I would never have thought I would see. A griever. In our glade.
"How the-" but I couldn't finish my thought as Newt grabbed my hand and pulled me along, most definitely to find a place to hide so we won't become a midnight snack for the griever.
We ran towards the hut where the others were scrambling to get in and swiftly entered inside. On instinct, I scanned around the room in search for my brother amongst the huddled group of gladers.
"Tommy," I said, a bit above a whisper once I caught sight of him.
His head swung in my direction and he immediately made his way over to me.
"Oh, thank god," he sighed, relief rushing over him as he reached over to where I was and pulled me into a hug.
We pull away from the hug and I continue to ponder how I was able to sleep through a fucking griever making its way into the glade.
"It's because you're a deep sleeper," Newt explains. "You've slept through a lot of stuff going on in the glade."
"How did you know I was thinking that?"
"I can see it in your face. The look you get when you're confused about something."
" Stay quiet, guys," Tommy says, more directed towards Newt and I.
We could hear the griever hovering right above our heads almost like it's the predator hunting for its prey, and we are its prey. Then, all of a sudden, the griever smashes through the hut with its claw-like hand and pulled the support beam out, causing the wood used to build the hut to collapse onto us. I feel Newt's hand grab mine and pull me into him to act like a shield against the falling wood.
"You okay?" he asks after releasing me from his grasp.
"Yeah," I reply with. Just then, we hear one of the gladers call for help. "But he's not."
Newt and I rush over to where Tommy was trying to help the glader, but he was grabbed and killed by the griever before we could do anything.
I nervously run a hand through my hair, not knowing what to say and not knowing what to do. I never thought once in my life that being here would result in something like this.
"Stay away from there!" I hear Tommy shout, followed by Jeff getting grabbed by the griever.
Then, the claw-like hand came back in and aimed its way towards me. I ran in the opposite direction of it, but the griever was too fast and got a hold of me. I thought I was a goner until I felt a hand grab mine. Newt.
"Y/n, don't let go!" Tommy tells me as him and others aid in helping Newt pull me back down.
"You think I purposely want to die?!" I sassily question, fear evident in my voice.
As others helped me stay close to the ground by holding onto me, Alby let's out this battle cry and started beating the griever to death. It did wonders as he got it to release me from its death grip.
Newt's arms instantly wrapped around my waist, holding onto me like my life depended on it.
"Y/n, are you okay?" Tommy asks, concern lacing his voice.
"Just peachy, Tommy," I answer out of breath. "Just peachy."
I reached down and grabbed the stinger that fell off of the griever when Alby was beating it. Up close, it looked to be a fairly big needle.
Just as soon as it left, the griever came back again, took another shot at grabbing someone, and immediately grabbed Alby in the process.
"Alby!" Tommy shouts and ran over to grab him in an attempt to save him.
"Thomas," I hear Alby say. "Get them out."
With that, he was gone. Snatched away by the predator.
"NOOOO!" Tommy shrieks in defeat.
Then, he starts to make his way out of the hut.
"Thomas!" Teresa, all of a sudden, says as she follows my brother outside.
Newt and I stand up to follow Teresa and the others out of the hut to prevent Tommy from doing anything stupid. However, outside we only see that the griever is gone, the glade is up in flames, and a pissed off Gally is waltzing his way over to us.
"Gally," Tommy tries to explain as he nears, but is immediately down to the ground with a single punch from him.
"Hey!" I exclaim as the others hold him back. "This is not the time for this Gally!"
"Yeah, well," Gally begins to say, "this is all Thomas' doing! Look around! You heard what Alby said! He's one of them!"
"One of who?!" Minho questions.
"He's one of them, and they sent him here to destroy everything.. and now he has!" Gally continues. "Look around, Thomas! Look around! This is your fault!"
The stinger that I still held on to was snatched out of my hand. I looked over to see who it was and I saw Tommy examining it, looking like he was about to do something stupid.
"Tommy," I said, worried about his intentions with the stinger.
"Maybe he's right," he, then, says. "I need to remember, y/n."
"Tommy, don't."
But, it was too late. He screams as he stabs himself with it and instantly falls to the ground, everyone rushing over to his side.
