❝ When I saw you
I fell in love
And you smiled
Because you knew. ❞
- William ShakespeareArielle stood beside Marina near the bar, as she ordered them both drinks. Red wine, perfect she had thought. She scanned the room, trying to find a certain brunette who had gotten her weak in her knees. As her eyes roamed across the room, she spotted him standing with Tracy, Jason and Rebecca, completely ignoring them as he also searched the room.
In a flash, he spotted her and smiled her way as ducked her face to hide the grin that creeping onto her face; him just smirking in response. She sighed as he turned around at something Rebecca had said, a sudden sharp pain piercing through her heart.
"What are you looking at?" Marina had asked her, "I-I uhm." she stuttered, her eyes still on him but before she could cover it up, Marina followed her gaze to fell upon Jesse. Ah him! Marina had muttered.
"Can't you see it?" Marina had nearly yelled after a moment of silence, causing Arielle to look at her in pure confusion. "See what?" she had asked quietly. "That you guys belong together!" Marina responded immediately, in a much slower voice.
"No-" "Don't even try to make excuses, elle. I know you and I know him too." Marina had snapped, cutting Arielle off. Arielle looked at Jesse again, her whole eyes lighting up the instant he makes eye contact with her. As if he felt her looking at him. She quickly turned away from his gaze as if she it could burn her.
"You deny anything but you still look at him like that? With that look." Marina had pointed; her hand signalling whatever it is between them. "What? What look?" she had asked in curiosity. "The look you have when you do what you love," she informs her, "the look you have when you sing your hearts out."
"Yeah?" Arielle asked; her voice barely a whisper as she realised Marina was right. She glanced back at Jesse, who smiled at her as if he knew what they were talking about and that's when she realised that she had fallen in love. With him. A long time ago.
She let out a gasp as Marina continued on, "You look at him as if he's the only person in the whole world and he does too." Arielle couldn't believe that she just realised it. Friends don't sleep into each other's bed, they don't get jealous seeing the other with someone else, they don't look at each other longer than they should nor in a crowded room, they search for each other. Maybe at the beginning, they were friends but right now, they were not even near to being just friends.
And suddenly, Arielle didn't mind getting burned.
