The phenomenon of two friends becoming more than that was something spectacular, so uncommon it was almost like a miracle. Neither Alfred nor Lovino could put it into words.

The kitchen light had been left on. The faint murmur of the television had wafted through the room. The lights and sounds of the living room had gone unnoticed as the two were locked in a kiss. It was sweet and gentle, and conveyed the message that Lovino wanted Alfred to see him as more than the waiter, or the visitor from the hospital. What Lovino didn't realize was that Al had already begun to see him as more than that.

Even though this kiss had captured their minds for what felt like an eternity, there was still an uncertanty was still in both of their heads.

Alfred pulled away from the kiss, breathless, resting his forhead on Lovino's. For a moment they simply stared into each others eyes. Blue met hazel.

Neither one of them knew what to say after sharing a kiss as magnificent as that. What was there to say? No words could make this moment more important to Alfred or Lovino. One spoke up at last.

"So...what is this then?" Lovino asked.

"What is what?"

"This. What just happened is what. Does this mean you...like...me?"

"I more than 'like' you." Alfred replied, nuzzling his cheek. "I really, really care about you. Do you know that?"

"W-well now I do..." Lovino mumbled. He was actually a bit shocked to hear those words. "I really, really, care about you." Nobody had ever said something like that to him. He had always believed that people favored his little brother, Feliciano over him, his nonno included. They were raised by their grandfather since they were little, and Lovino always felt that his brother was superior to him. Feliciano, in Lovi's eyes, was better at drawing, cooking, socializing, cleaning, anything of the sort. Their grandfather told them that he didn't have favorites, but the oldest knew that wasn't true. Feliciano would always be the favorite.

Alfred had never seen Lovino get so shy all of a sudden. It was a bit out of character for him. Even the Italian was a little shocked at his bashfulness.

The more Lovi thought about it, he realized why he was being so shy. He was finally breaking down the wall he had built up over the years, and wasn't used to someone kissing him and telling him they cared.

He didn't know how to feel about starting to let people in.
