After Alfred's attempt at cheering Lovino up, the group spent a few more hours at the carnival. And they had a great time. The rode all of the rides and played all of the games. Mathias even won a giant teddy bear! Everything was going well and everyone got along.
Until, that is, the American started acting rather strange.
Despite being cheerful and wanting nothing but to make Lovi happy in the earlier hours, he was now in a very jumpy and irritable mood. Whenever Gilbert asked him about it he would say it was nothing and to forget about it in a very harsh tone.
Everyone was so curious as to why he would act like this after such a great night. They all were mumbling about what it might be.

When Al and Lovino got home, it was about midnight. Clouds covered up the sliver of moon, which was the only light shining through the windows. It was completely dark. Nobody bothered to turn on the lights.
Alfred stormed into the house and slammed the door.
"What the hell is up with you? You've been acting like an ass." Lovi questioned with an irritated tone, similar to Alfred's.
Alfred sighed. "Its not you Lovino. Its just..."
"Just what? You can tell me, idiota."
"Ugh. Its just that...you know Arthur? The guy I was with the night we met?"
The Italian vaugely remembered the man he was talking about. "You mean the one with huge ass eyebrows?"
"Yeah. That guy. We were dating, and then we broke up. And now, I guess, he wants to get back together with me. And he keeps texting me. I keep telling him to just lose my number, but he keeps sending me messages. It's starting to make me really mad. Why can't he see that I don't want him back? After the way he just left me with no explanation..." Alfred trailed off and was silent for a moment, but when he spoke again, the angry tone he had kept that evening had vanished. "But...I don't want him. You're the only one I want to be with, Lovino Vargas. I love you."
I love you
The heavy words floated through the air. The silence was deafening. The way Alfred had spoken those three little syllables had shocked Lovino and just about melted his heart. The voice that spoke them was so normally loud, and some may consider it obnoxious, but when he whispered I love you through the darkness of the moonlit room, it was the most beautiful sound in the world.
Their silhouettes stood out against the light of the moon shining through the windows. The room was dark, but Lovi could see Alfred's face drop when many seconds passed and the Italian did not return his words.
I knew it. I knew he wouldn't say it back. Now, he'll just throw me aside, like Arthur did. Al thought. He was about to turn and walk away, his heart shattering again. But the soothing sound of Lovino's voice spoke up, and Alfred was given hope.
"Ti amo di più."
"What does that mean?" Al inquired.
"I love you more." Lovino said, full of confidence and love. He pulled Alfred's face down to his, so their foreheads were touching. "I love you more." he repeated, and pressed their lips together. The kiss was just as passionate as the one they had shared at the dunk tank, if not more. Alfred could feel just how much Lovino needed him everytime their lips moved against each others.
Finally, they pulled away, due to lack of air.
"Please," Lovino whispered through the darkness, "be mine."
"Always." Alfred breathed, and smiled.
