Later that same afternoon, when both Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian had calmed down substantially and were sipping tea on the couch cocooned in the very familiar fluffy blanket, Mo Xuanyu came to visit. He only knocked on the door shortly and entered, by now no longer a guest but more like one of the inhabitants of the small house. He spent here more time then at his own home.

He stopped at the sight of his two friends huddled together. Wei Wuxian briefly worried how he and Lan Wangji looked. His childhood friend had not commented on anything before, and Wei Wuxian had even pushed himself to shower as he had been ashamed of not changing his clothes or washing up for days. However, he still did not feel completely fine, his eyes were stinging so they must have been all red and puffy. He had always been an ugly crier.

Gods bless Mo Xuanyu. He did not comment on anything either and only came over to the living room area with a smile. He greeted: "Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, what a lovely day we have today. What are you plans? Mind if I join you?"

He must have felt that they were still not at full strength and was trying his best to distract them, Wei Wuxian could tell. Mo Xuanyu was speaking seemingly leisurely as he went to the kitchen and prepared a new kettle of tea. He brough it over and carefully refilled their cups. Then, he took one for himself as well and sat down in the armchair opposite to them.

There was a brief moment of silence. It was growing heavier and heavier on Wei Wuxian's mind. When it had been just him and Lan Wangji, it had been fine to only sit together and let himself be soothed into half asleep state in the comfort of his childhood friend's proximity, all the while having the other gently play with his hair. However, now that they were not alone anymore, silence felt awkward. Unfortunately, it was not as if Wei Wuxian could speak at the moment.

Mo Xuanyu must have read his mind. It did not even take a minute and he cheerfully started speaking to fill it: "What a nice day we have today. Although the autumn is almost here, the weather is beautiful. And it is not even as hot anymore. Brothers promised to come fishing with me to a lake..."

All of a sudden, Wei Wuxian realized two things. First, he had not been outside of the small house for more than a month. And second, neither had Lan Wangji.

No wonder that his childhood friend's nerves and emotions were running high. He had been all but imprisoned inside, taking care of Wei Wuxian all the time. He needed fresh air and to feel sun on his skin again. Wei Wuxian was still very shaken after seeing Lan Wangji cry so much this morning. He thought that he would never forget that picture of the other's tears-stained face. It would haunt him in his nightmares.

On the spur of a moment, he blurted out before he could double guess himself: "Let us go outside."

Silence fell upon the room once again. Shocked one this time.

Mo Xuanyu stared at him with an open mouth and Lan Wangji's hand in his hair stopped caressing them. Truth to be told, Wei Wuxian was surprised himself. He had still not forgotten how cruel the world could be. He was afraid of running into anyone and experiencing vicious bullying again. And being punished because he would break rules he did not even know about, there were too many eyes watching his every step. It was much safer inside.

However, the same did not apply to Lan Wangji. He surely wanted to go outside, he was just too nice to leave Wei Wuxian all alone for any length of time. He had not been going to school all this while and Wei Wuxian had not even seen him studying. Their needs have been taken care of by Lan Xichen who was bringing all the groceries. They lived in a bubble of space where time had stopped. For Wei Wuxian that was, he wondered how Lan Wangji saw it.

He stopped his guilt from completely overwhelming him with sheer willpower. He would do anything if it meant repaying Lan Wangji's devotion and kindness. If Lan Wangji wanted to – needed to – get out of the house for a while, perhaps for a short walk or something, Wei Wuxian would do anything for him. Even accompany him, he would probably not be able to stand being left alone at this moment.

Lan Wangji got over his shock first and carefully asked: "Are you sure, Wei Ying? It is Saturday and no one is around but... Will you be fine?"

Wei Wuxian was not so confident himself, but he had already said it aloud, he would not go back on his word. And truth to be said, he simply did not want to go back into the room which reeked of sweat and did not have any free space on the ground anymore as it was covered in his apology letters.

He nodded with conviction, hiding all his doubts and fears deep inside. It was possible that a walk outside could do some good even to him. He shortly looked out of the window and saw that what Mo Xuanyu had said was true. The weather looked really nice and the sunrays playing around with colourful leaves as they were dancing in a breeze were inviting him to go take a closer look.

Lan Wangji stared at him for another long moment, making Wei Wuxian anxious. He could not tell at all what his childhood friend was thinking. Luckily, he was not left in the dark for long.

"I see." Lan Wangji commented and smiled. "I am very proud of you," he praised and kissed Wei Wuxian's forehead.

Wei Wuxian was baffled. His heart was all warm and melting. He had not known Lan Wangji could still smile like this. Sure, he had smiled and laughed when they had been children, but he had always looked so serious and/or worried after they had met again. Wei Wuxian had no idea his childhood friend could look like the angelic light of his days even as a teenager.

"Yes, let us go outside," Wei Wuxian repeated, now more convinced than ever that he was making a good decision.

The place where Lan Wangji's lips had touched his skin was warm as well and he could not help but smile in return. He had a feeling that he would truly be just fine. As long as Lan Wangji was by his side, he would not let anything bad happen to him and would take him away if he got overwhelmed.

He barely remembered what happened next. His mind was occupied by the kiss he had just received and the warm feeling of security in his chest. Automatically, he had put on a jacket that his childhood friend handed to him and before he knew it, he was stepping outside while Lan Wangji was holding one of his hands for support. He had to admit that he was actually excited.

They must have made a truly curious sight, but just as Lan Wangji had promised, no one was around to see and judge. Wei Wuxian lifted his free hand to shield his eyes from the sun. Even the gentle light of the late afternoon was hurting him, he had spent too long cooped up inside. The air was crisp but still warm enough to feel comfortable. He could hear the rustling of the leaves when wind played with them and carried them around. And when Mo Xuanyu took the first step outside and Wei Wuxian followed him with Lan Wangji by his side.
