Chapter Twenty Nine: All Too New

"You ok?" Aubrey came through the door and immediately came to me, which made me smile as I was sitting on the couch.

I was a little scared when I heard the door open but smiled once Aubrey came in. I saw her eyes look around before settling on me and her whole body language changed.

She had left to get my car and Miss Madison went with her, so I was here alone.

Izzy was at school and Aubrey told me that she would go get my car since she didn't want me going, and I completely understood there.

I didn't want to run into Raj cause I didn't know what he would do if he caught me. I knew he was after Aubrey and also knew that I was with her.

Plus, he knew Sage was dead.

I wasn't sure what Raj was capable of, but I'd rather not find out and stay here.

It didn't bother me being here alone cause I was watching tv, but Aubrey was skeptical about leaving me and she said she would hurry back.

But once she came inside, she came to me and pulled me into a hug. She kept asking if I was ok but all I did was smile at her.

"I think she's ok." Miss Madison smiles as she was standing at the door.

"I'm fine."

Aubrey looks at me a little longer before handing me my keys. I smiled at her before grabbing them and holding them in my hand.

Miss Madison walks out of the living room and into the kitchen. I saw Aubrey move up on the couch before sitting next to me, making me look over at her as she was looking at me.

"What?" I ask.

Aubrey shrugs before looking at the tv and I leaned my head on her shouler as my eyes went to the tv as well.

"My manager called me while you were gone." I said.

She looks over at me. "What did they say?"

"He wants me to come back in."

Aubrey moves and I remove my head from her shoulder as I look over at her.

The silence between us was loud enough to understand, so I grabbed her hand and looked at her, making her look at me.

"If you're worried about me, don't be."

"Are you ok to go back in for work? I don't want to keep you from that but I don't want you going back if you're not ready."

When she said that, I knew there was something else. I knew she wasn't telling me the full story but I could see right through her.

She didn't want me going cause she wanted me here, protected and kept safe.

It made me smile.

"I want to go." I said before sighing and leaning back. "It's the only thing normal about my life right now."

Which was the truth.

Nothing in my life was normal anymore.

Everything was new and weird for me.

I've been kept in the dark for so long, unaware of what was going on in the shadows of my own family.

I never knew anything.

It still made me wonder why they kept it from me.

Was it to keep me safe?

It didn't make sense and I wanted answers.

A lot of answers.

That made Aubrey look at me before Miss Madison stuck her head in from the kitchen. She asks if Aubrey will come help her and after she got up and left, I stared at the tv.

When my manager called me, I totally forgot about how much I've missed work and I never called anyone cause I was out of it and everything else that was going on.

It would be good for me to go back cause right now, my life was not normal.

After everything that happened, I was still having a hard time accepting the facts about everything.

Now, I had to worry about Raj cause Aubrey told me that he would be looking for me. I didn't think he would do anything but Aubrey told me that since he knew who she was and that I was with her, he would come after me.

Which doesn't make sense cause he wasn't in a Mafia.

I knew he was helping my brother, but I still didn't know what my brother was even doing.

Aubrey never told me what she did that night and I knew she was lying to me when she told me that it was work.

When she came in the living room, I watch as she walks to the couch and sits down. I wanted to ask her, so I turned to face her and she looks over at me.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Sure." She places her arm over the back of the couch and moves closer to me.

"That morning you came here early and I overheard you and Miss Madison.. was it anything to do with the Mafia?"

She glances at the tv before looking back at me. "Yeah."

"What did you do?"

"I don't think you want to know."

"I do."

She nods as she looks away before sighing. "I was out killing someone." She looks at me, expecting to see me shocked but I stared at her.

"Good or bad people?"

"Bad people?"

"So, you're good?"

"If you want to call me that."

"Wait," I thought for a moment. "If you were after us then does that mean we were the bad people?"

She looks at me before reaching over and tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. "You are not bad."

"But my family was?"

"They did some bad things." She started caressing my cheek and I leaned into her hand. "But that doesn't mean you're bad."

"I have another question."

"What?"

"If you didn't have feelings for me.. would you have killed me?"

That made her look at me for a moment and I knew the answer but she didn't want to say it. I knew she also knew the answer, but didn't want to say it.

"It's ok." I slightly smiled.

"I could never hurt you. Even if I wanted to." She leans towards me before gently kissing me.

That made me smile as we pull back. I look at her before turning my body and leaning into her as she wraps her arm around me.

It felt good knowing everything now and I was getting used to how my life was. I knew that it would never be the same, but I'm hoping one day it could be.

I'm just thankful Aubrey was in my life and I knew she would protect me.
