Day 1

Location: Picket Road, Bottleneck City

Time: 11:34 PM

Primary Goal: Find the Others [1/15], Find the Truth of The World

Darius held his breath, silently running through his options. Based on the tail alone, this thing was likely only slightly bigger than Darius and the mysterious new girl, but even a compy could take them on, especially in this light. The kitchen looked completely different in the middle of the night. The shadows were deeper, and Darius found himself shivering, suddenly far more aware of his surroundings, but in the wrong way. What was hiding in those corners?

Suddenly, the girl next to him stood up, and Darius frowned at her. She put her finger over her lips again, even though Darius had no intention of speaking.

Darius pointed to the front door, silently suggesting that they go out that way, but the girl shook her head. She held up her hand, and Darius squinted at it, trying to see it in the darkness. There was only a little light, illuminated by some force outside the broken window, but it didn't reach this far into the house. Darius had to really stare to figure out that the girl was holding up three fingers. Darius deflated. Oh. Great.

The girl moved again, pointing to Darius, then at the floor in front of them. 'Stay here', she seemed to be saying. Or, at least, that's what Darius was assuming she was saying. He nodded, slowly, and the girl nodded back, satisfied. She moved towards the back door, and for the first time, Darius saw what was in her other hand.

His eyes widened.

The girl carried a heavy looking pole filled with concrete that was almost the size that she was. She carried it horizontally at her hip, making sure not to bump into anything as she moved, I order to not make noise. She carried it confidently, her fingers wrapped around it determinedly. Darius almost felt sorry for the predators outside.

Almost. The thing was, Darius still doubted she could hold her own against three dinosaurs, especially if they were raptors. When the girl went out to make her stand, they'd notice her, and surround her, splitting her attention between the three of them. The one in front of her, near her face, would attack, snapping at her, but it'd just be the distraction. It'd move back quickly, avoiding her swing, and then the one behind her would... would...

Darius gulped, not willing to finish that thought. Luckily, the perfect distraction came along in the form of tip tapping at the front of the house. Darius froze. Footsteps. Those made by clawed feet, not by shoes.

Oh no. Darius moved quickly, crawling over to hide behind the counter, out of sight from the front door, just as something showed up, silhouetted by the light. Darius held his breath, trying not to move as the dinosaur walked in, its steps measured and cautious.

Darius forced his panic down and did his best to listen over the fierce pounding of his own heart. At least from what he could hear, there was no large toe claw tapping on the dirt covered floor as the dinosaur stepped through. That was... well, Darius still didn't feel any safer.

Suddenly, the dinosaur's head appeared around the corner, facing the back door. Darius flinched, but it didn't seem to notice him, continuing towards the back door. It bobbed its head as it moved, seemingly focused on something in the back. It didn't seem to notice Darius, but Darius watched it closely as it moved by him.

...Oh. That was not a predator. It was still dangerous, no doubt, but both he and the girl had been wrong. They weren't being hunter, these therizinosaurs, despite their long dagger-like claws, were likely just here for the same reason Darius was: for food.
