Day 2

Location: Millory, Bottleneck City

Time: 9:49 PM

The young an led them a little past the factory and the chain linked fence, finally stopping beside of gorge cut into the concrete like a great canyon. The other side of it was easily a half a mile away from the edge they were on. Between the ledges was the telltale roar of running water, so loud that it was approaching painful. As Darius urged the borealopelta closer, he shuddered, imagining, just for a moment, a creature that would be able to make that sound. It wasn't comforting.

"Up there!" the man was shouting, pointing up. Darius could only barely hear him over the roaring of the water, but the man's point came across, and Darius looked up, trying to find what he was pointing at.

Darius' eyes widened as he saw the little kid across the canyon, perched up on top of an old radio tower that was leaning precariously over the water, swaying slightly. The kid was... oh no, he was tiny, and he looked so young... but also determined as he looked up into the slowly darkening sky, searching for something.

Ai gasped as her eyes caught on them. "Oh no... hey, hey little kid! What are you doing?!"

Darius glanced over to her, gaping. Wait... you don't know his name?"

Ai ignored him, turning to the young man in front of them. "We have to stop him?! How do we get over there?!"

The man shrugged helplessly. "I have no idea! As far as I know, there IS no way over there!"

Ai huffed, frustrated. "There has to be some way!"

Again, the man shrugged uselessly.

"What's he even doing?" Darius asked him. "He's looking for someone? Dirt, was it?"

"Wirt," the young man corrected. "Er, well, sort of. He came to Millory by following those notes he swears are from his brother. And then he started asking around for the president's room based on one of the notes, but we told him there was no way to access it from inside the building! And then he just left!"

"The president's room?" Darius repeated turning back to the building. "Where is that?"

"At the very top..." the man told him nervously. "Maybe he thought he could climb there, but he obviously can't, and he hasn't climbed down-!"

"Oh!" Darius cried out, suddenly realizing what the kid's plan was. "Do pterosaurs come here very often?"

"What?"

"Flying dinosaurs!"

"Oh, yeah, every night they fly out here to roost somewhere over... oh," the man finally seemed to catch on, too. He stared at the little kid, who seemingly still hadn't noticed them yet, with something like awe in his eyes. "I... do you think it'll work-?"

"No," Darius told him flatly. The man's worried look returned. "We have to stop him before they get here!"

"It's too late," Ai told them, she pointed right, further down the canyon. "They're already here!"

Darius turned to look and instantly saw that she was right. And the horizon, six distant black shapes were getting bigger and bigger by the second, and rapidly approaching. Darius and Ai gaped at them.

"They... why are they so big?!" Ai cried, horrified.

"It's... well, it's not the biggest pterosaur," Darius admitted. "But with a wingspan of ten meters, it's still pretty big. Those are cryodrakons!"

"Why have to stop him!" Ai cried.

All three of them turned towards the little kid on the tower, still oblivious, and screamed at the same time: "DON'T DO IT!"
