Day 1
Location: Center Square, Bottleneck City, Badlands
Time: 9:04 AM
"NOOOO!"
Darius' terrified scream ripped from his throat in a manner that might have worried him if he wasn't so scared for the telmatosaur's safety. Later, Darius's throat would feel raw and it'd hurt to speak for a while, but right now, he didn't care. He was desperate.
And the telmatosaurus seemed to realize that, because it stopped, and hesitated. It turned back to stare at Darius. It seemed... scared.
Darius pleaded to it with his eyes, and slowly, very slowly, the telmatosaurus came back to him. Darius' eyes widened in shock, but he quickly shoved that surprise aside so he could reach forward and grabbed the little creature, pulling it back to the safety of his chest and enclosed arms. Then, he used his one leg that wasn't shooting painful jolts of electricity up his leg to push himself along the ground, and towards safety.
Once he got around the building, Darius pushed himself up against the building, clutching his leg while holding the dinosaur tightly. It was only when it meeped softly that he let it out, opening his arms so that it could fall down. When it climbed Darius' hurt leg, he hissed in pain, and it quickly back off.
Darius gave it an apologetic look through tears of pain. "U-Uh, sorry," he said softly, though the words were said through gritted teeth. "I d-didn't mean to scare-ugh!"
With one final jolt of pain, almost like a goodbye hug, the electricity faded until it was just numbness. Darius frowned at it, and patted it like he could figure out what was wrong. Hadn't he been... shot?
Suddenly, he felt something on his other leg, and he nearly flinched away until he looked over and saw the telmatosaurus nuzzling him, like it was trying to make him feel better. Darius smiled at it, and raised his hand to pet it. It nuzzled into his hand, too.
"Thanks," Darius said. He scooped it up again, and awkwardly got to his feet. His left leg was still numb, and he couldn't feel it at all, which made it very difficult to walk. It felt like he was only using one leg to walk. Even a cane would be preferable to this.
Still, Darius gritted his teeth and bore it. Walking with a limb around the buildings that would protect him from the gunfire.
"Let's get you back to your parent, little one," Darius told it. This time, it didn't squirm. In fact, it seemed to enjoy the ride. Darius smiles at it. He wasn't one for pets, not even dinosaur pets, but right now, he wanted to hug this little creature forever.
As soon as the mother was in sight (apparently having the same idea as Darius, and going AROUND the gunfight), Darius knelt down, and released the telmatosaurus. As soon as it was down on the ground, it was running full tilt at its parent. When they met in the middle, they nuzzled, the baby meeping happily.
The parent looked up at Darius, and hummed out at him. Darius tilted his head, wondering if that was a thank you or a threat, but he nodded anyway.
The parent seemed satisfied with her berating-thanking?-, and turned around, calling out for their child as they went. The child gave Darius one last look, and then turned and followed. Darius waved as they left, feeling better than he had since he'd arrived in this place.
Putting himself in danger while trying to save dinosaurs. Things were almost normal again, other than his missing friends. And, he supposed-
"HEY!"
Darius jumped, turning around quickly towards a lone figure moving towards him threateningly. Ah, that's what else he was missing: the humans toting guns and running around lie they owned the place. Darius glared at the approaching man, who covered in armour and pointing his gun straight at Darius. Darius bent his knees, getting into a fighting stance as he raised his arms, protecting the retreating back of the telmatosaurus behind him.
