Day 11

Time: 8:45 PM

Location: 18th Guard Tower, Fourth Moon Quarter

"...And that cereal box gave me an idea. I decided to write a note filled with all that I learned: the warning against the cameras, the Unification of our Rights, and what we should do on Lookout Duty," Darius explained, chuckling at the memory. Now that he knew Ai wasn't dying from ink poisoning, it was kind of funny. "Though I'm not sure it got across."

Ai stared at him. "...OH! That's what that note was about! I... um, I didn't get that, actually."

Darius rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "I figured," he said. "I'm not the best artist."

"Well, it wasn't that," AI told him quickly. "Actually, the note was almost completely ruined by egg and... my mouth. The only think I got from it was the camera thing."

Darius winced. "Oh, sorry about that. Guess it wasn't my best idea..." Darius trailed off as another thought occurred to him. "But, then, what was that, in the clock in room? I thought you knew what I was talking about."

Ai looked embarrassed. "Well, I guess it's time for my story. Unless you've got something to add, Darius?"

Darius thought about it, trying to think of if he missed anything. Either it had slipped his mind, or he had told them everything. Either way, he shook his head at Ai signalling for her to go ahead.

"Right," Ai said, picking at her noodles. Even a near hour later, they still had not finished their dinner, choosing to pick at it rather than fully eat it. Darius' mom wouldn't be very happy about him 'playing with his food', but he could only eat unflavored, slightly raw noodles so enthusiastically.

"Well, since Darius explained everything up until then, my part starts at the note," Ai said. "When I managed to pick it out from mouth."

Darius winced again. "Sorry."

"It's fine," Ai told him noncommittedly. "Anyway, as I said, it was mostly ruined..."

Ai shut the door behind her with a loud bang that shook the walls of the tiny, very ugly bathroom that was hardly bigger than a closet. However, Ai didn't notice as she stood in front of the mirror over the sink, gagging from the terrible feel of something that was distinctly not food inside of her mouth. Unfortunately, the wetness of the paper had now made it stick to the walls of her mouth, and Ai had to stick her finger in her mouth and try to scrap it off.

What was this? Some kind of prank? A cruel joke? Darius didn't seem the type but maybe he had a secret mean streak Ai hadn't seen before. However, he can't have knonw the paper would taste this bad.

Finally, Ai managed to get the majority of the paper off her mouth and onto the counter. Hacking out some bits that hadn't managed to stay attached into the sink. She really hoped they hadn't been important.

Finally, feeling sick from all of the porr quality paper Ai had been forced to swallow, Ai took a look at the paper, something that Darius felt was so important he tricked her into eating it.

Well, first things first, it had clearly been a folded up note, but in it's current state, there was no way for Ai to be able to open it, at least not without destroying the whole thing. However, there was something that was written on top of the note, that Darius had allegedly wanted her to look at before she looked at the other contents of the note.

The first drawing, that Ai managed to make out from under yellow egg stains and running ink, was a square with a couple other squares around it.

Finally. Ai's habit of reading manga when she was supposed to be studying would pay off. That was a camera, wasn't it?
