Day 2

Location: Thrifort, Bottleneck City

Time: 4:59 PM

Darius and Ai walked quietly through Thrifort, the amourdillo, which was actually a Borealopelta, between them almost as a wall. Darius kept his hand on the borealopelta's lowered head as it shuffled along with them. He was trying to give the creature some comfort, but he was pretty sure the Borealopelta couldn't feel it through its thick armour. And if it could, Darius doubted it would know what he meant by it.

Darius didn't look at Ai directly, only glancing at her through the refection's of the window. He couldn't look her in the eye; not yet at least. But that wasn't hard, because Ai still wasn't looking at him, directly or otherwise. Her head was down and she looked troubled, her eyes darting around as thoughts seemed to whirl around in her head.

Darius wanted to talk, to say something, but he had already decided to bring it up when they were out of Thrifort. Of course, no one seemed to care about them anymore, but Darius didn't want to risk anything. Beside, he had other things to think about now, new information that that were jumbled up in his head, and that he needed to sort out.

First of all, Darius now knew more about Kin. Obviously, he had never trusted Kin, because not only had the man threatened Darius when they first met, but also, he just looked evil. Sorry, but it was true. But back then, Darius had put him on the same level of evil as Langford. But now, Darius saw that he was wrong. Kin wasn't Langford, he was Daniel Kon, a rich person that will do anything to create a profit, now matter how evil it was.

Darius supposed he couldn't blame the town for wanting to stay on his good side. From the fight with Mr Kon, Darius knew how scary it was to be their enemy. These people seemed all powerful, and you just... weren't.

But Darius couldn't make the same decision as that town. He could not just keep his head down and blindly follow orders when Kin was hurting people. Darius knew he had to stop Kin... he just had to figure out how.

That was what Darius had decided back when he was speaking to the mayor. It had almost made him happy, thinking of himself as a campion of this small town, this hero who would save them from the bad guy and fix everything.

...But that was before he saw how they treated their own dinosaurs. When Darius and Ai had walked into the building, it was like they walked into a nightmare. But Chlue and the mayor barely reacted. This was... normal for them. They looked at this horrible cruelty against their animals, and they didn't even bat an eye.

The utahraptor with its teeth and claws all torn out, and its jaw and hands looked swollen and inflamed with infection. The styracosaurus with most of its horns torn out, except two, probably for the rider to hang onto. The saltasauridae with a chain around its neck, large spikes digging into inward into its skin. The saltasauridae was the only one with a saddle, but the saddle looked parament, with bolts fastening the saddle to the saltasauridae.

When Darius had asked about that, the owner, Adeo, only gave a slightly uninterested glance over to the dinosaur and shrugged. 'It's being punished' was all he said in response, and then continued to try and push Darius to buy one.

It was... horrible. That town, or at least Adeo, was just as cruel as Kin, using creature for profit, not actually caring about these things being alive. And everyone just... didn't seem to notice. Everyone turned their head away, and just let it happen.

Well, Darius refused to let that happen, and as soon as they were finally out of Thrifort, Darius turned to Ai, ready to tell her just that.

Unfortunately, Ai spoke first.
