~Tara's POV~
The journey was indeed long and I had to stop for a while. I had started a fire and pulled the blanket I brought with me to drape over Jasmine, the horse.
"You need it more than I do." I petted her neck as she tried eating my hair. I laughed and moved away.
"No, now get some rest." I moved towards the fire and sat near it. The night was cold and I shivered from the air blowing against my back. I felt Jasmine move behind me and sit down closer to me. I smiled and leaned against her for some warmth.
"Thank you." I sighed and closed my eyes briefly in contentment.
"Tara? Is that you?" I felt a hand on me and I jumped at the contact. I looked up into the face of my best friend, Millicent. I smiled as she helped me up. Jasmine snorted and got up as well while letting the blanket fall to the dirty ground. I hurried to pick it up and dusted off the dirt while giving Jasmine a look.
"You didn't take a carriage?" She asked me as I adjusted my bag around me.
"Father let the twins take the carriage so I'm not sure if my belongings are even at the school." I squinted a little as the sun was blinding me from behind Millicent.
"Come on. You can accompany me to school. We can put your horse with mine so that we may get there faster." I nodded and laid my things inside the carriage to help hook up Jasmine to the reins.
"Come on girl. You can do it." I pulled her forward with me and she followed. I watched the coachman hook her up while I kept her calm.
"I'll be right inside the carriage. Don't pull us off the road." She nuzzled my neck and I smiled and hugged her before getting into the carriage.
"You're very attached to Jasmine. How many years has it been now?" I laughed and shoved her lightly.
"Haha, very funny. She's been my best animal friend." I rolled my eyes at her and she smiled. I looked out the window and saw the school outline.
"I wasn't too far off. I could've made the journey alone." I mused out loud.
"It's dangerous to adventure into the night like you did." Millicent shared her concern but I shook my head no.
"Jasmine wouldn't let anything happen to me. She's very protective of me." I answered her still looking out the window. The school was a true wonder with how it was built. I wondered why they didn't just join the two schools instead of having the bridge. I could make out darker clouds covering the evil side while the sun was shining brightly on the good side. I sighed as I thought of all the princes that were returning.
"I hope we'll get a dorm together." I nodded and looked away from the school towards Millicent.
"I hope Nicholas will be here." We shared a smile as we each gushed about all the different princes.
The carriage stopped suddenly and the footman opened the door for us. I took the offered help and looked around in awe. The towering castle of good glittered in the sunlight. Silver and gold melded together with the white contrast of the walls to give it a majestic look. I sighed as I twirled around the courtyard. I walked up to Jasmine and petted her neck as I gave her a sugar cube.
"You did very well." I looked up at the coachman as I gave her another sugar cube.
"Can you get her to the stables? I'll get there as soon as I can." The coachman nodded and I gave him a grateful smile.
"RIght away Princess Tara." I sighed and watched the carriage move forward.
"Come on! Let's get inside to find our dorm!" I giggled as I let Millicent drag me inside. The doors themselves were made of oakwood but the entryway was decorated much more lavishly than my own. Mostly gold reigned the space but pastels popped up to offset the amount of gold I saw. At the top of the stairs stood Professor Dovey; the dean of the School for Good. She waved towards me and I waved back.
