Chapter 6

~Months Later~

~Tara's POV~

   I was pulled into the bedroom by Lesso very quickly. I stumbled a little but she never let me fall down. The door was shut and locked and Lesso turned around to face me. I smiled but she looked very distraught. I pulled her away from the door and to the bed so that we could talk.

"What happened?" I asked as I kept hold of her hands and tried soothing her. She got up and started pacing, I knew she couldn't stay and do nothing so what happened?

"Lesso, you're scaring me. What happened?" I got louder and she finally looked at me fully.

"He's back." I felt myself go slack as I knew what she was talking about. I shook my head but even I knew she might be right.

"No. No, he can't be back. Agatha and Sophie defeated him!" I didn't believe my own words, I wasn't there when he was defeated so what did I know.

"I don't know how but I do know is that somehow Agatha must've done something. You had died for a second and that freed me and the other teachers. I think when Rafal got True Love's Kiss and the school was falling something happened with Sophie. That's the only thing I can think of." Lesso gradually walked towards me while talking and was tightly grasping my hands in hers. I kept my eyes on hers but I couldn't believe it.

"If Rafal was able to get True Love's Kiss then what does that say about us? We shared True Love's Kiss and don't deny it. Dovey told me what happened, it all made sense since-"

"I don't know!" Lesso dropped my hands and threw hers up in frustration. I sighed as I watched her slowly break more.

"Even when I'm not directly involved I still seem to hurt you. How can we have True Love when I always seem to hurt you?" I made my way to Lesso and grabbed her face. I watched as I saw love, pain, and confusion ran rampant through her eyes.

"I thought pain always came along with love. I can't live without you Tara. I thought I lost you before to Rafal; I can't lose you again." I smiled as my vision blurred with tears.

"I think we need some time away from each other. I can't lose you either but I don't know why Rafal would be back. If he hurts me again then I'll be hurting you all over again." I saw a tear escape Lesso's eyes and I wiped it away. Her hands were laid on my wrists but they tightened.

"Don't say that... please..." I let out a shaky breath and brought her face closer to mine.

"I promise not to hurt you anymore. Please, don't make this too hard. You know this needs to happen. Promise me that no matter what happens, Rafal will be defeated for good this time. I don't care what happens to me just, please, promise me that." She vigorously shook her head no but I closed my eyes.

"I can't... I can't promise that." She whispered as her voice started to crack.

"You'll have to. You know as well as I do that he will exploit our love and we'll both be hurt." I slowly let go of her but she wouldn't let me go.

"Lesso. This isn't goodbye. This is see you later." I smiled as I felt the tears fall freely. Her grip loosened so I took that moment to transform back into my owl. I flew out through the open window as I listened to her call me back. I didn't look back, I knew if I did I would fly back into her arms. I saw Dovey's window was open so I flew in but didn't transform yet. She was at her vanity in a nightgown brushing her hair.

"I know it's you Tara." I made a noise that turned into a sob as I transformed back. I just sat there and sobbed.

"Oh, Tara." Dovey ran towards me and hugged me tight.
