Wishes(COMPLETED)

Chapter 3

~Tara's POV~

   I couldn't sleep. I tried for so long but nothing worked so I grabbed my robe and quietly made my way to the library. Reading always tired me out and I was just going to grab a book to take back with me. I tiptoed around the edge of the halls and was weary around corners. I had to hide once as a fairy was coming down the hall I needed to go. I watched it turn the corner and I let out the breath of air I was holding. I opened the library doors and quickly but quietly closed them. The hearth was roaring, which was unusual for this time of night. I kept tiptoeing around and found the fantasy section. I know we live in a fantasy world, but I loved reading about the adventures that await us after graduation.

"You're up late." I gasped and turned around to see the headmaster with a book of his own. He smiled at me and I smiled back.

"I couldn't sleep, sir." I folded my hands behind my back, feeling embarrassed that I got caught. I heard him start laughing, and I looked up at him again.

"Don't worry about the formalities. Let's find you a book, and I'll escort you back to your room. I doubt you'd want me to wake up Professor Dovey." I nodded once and grabbed a random book.

"Is that truly the book you want?" I looked at the cover and smiled.

"Yes, this is actually one of my favorites." I clutched the book to my chest and walked  to the library doors again. I watched him bookmark his page and carry his book with him. He opened the door for me and allowed me out first. It was a tense quiet, and I didn't know why, but I didn't feel safe with him. He felt more evil than Lady Lesso, but wasn't he supposed to be good?

"I heard one of the fairies get chewed out by Dovey and Lesso earlier. You wouldn't know what happened there, would you?" I shook my head no.

"I was asleep, so I didn't even know." I knew the fairy got chewed out, but by both deans was saying something.

"Here we are." He opened my door for me and smiled at me.

"Goodnight, Princess Tara." He shut the door behind me, and I felt like I could breathe more easily. I shook my head to clear my thoughts and put the book on my nightstand. I suddenly felt exhausted, but my mind was still racing. I closed my eyes as I laid down on my bed. I evened out my breathing and tried forcing myself to sleep. Suddenly, I heard humming around my room and snapped open my eyes. The humming stopped, so I closed my eyes again. After a minute, the humming started again, but I kept my eyes closed. I allowed the song to fill my head and push away all my thoughts. I felt myself sink deeper into the bed as I could feel sleep take over.

   I opened my eyes to find the sun just starting to rise. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and looked up towards the ceiling. I felt much more rested than before and silently thanked the humming. I had enough time to go through my morning routine carefully. I don't know why, but I wanted to look good today. I ran the bath to run hotter than normal and brushed my hair own before I was going to wash it. I looked at my body after dropping my nightgown and noticed some bruising. Moving my hair away, I saw circles right below my left shoulder. I looked at my back and saw a full handprint on my lower back. I gasped and went to touch it, but something in me said not to. I shook my head and went about to finish my business. I would need to talk with Professor Dovey before classes started today.

   I wore a dress that I could just slip into and hurried out to where Professor Dovey's corridor was. I knocked lightly but with a little force; she never answered.

"She's already down in the cafeteria." I looked behind me and saw Professor Anemone.

"Thank you." I gave her a curtsy and quickly ran down to the cafeteria where I saw her and Lady Lesso already eating with a few early birds. I walked past the amount of food that was out for everyone and straight to Professor Dovey.
