~Tara's POV~

These past two weeks passed very quickly. I was so engrossed in my own thoughts that I haven't looked for a date. I needed to find someone or I would fail and I didn't want that. Walking through the garden after classes I found a scrawny looking prince by my tree. He had dirty blonde hair and a really fit build.

"Hey Keith." Keith turned around and smiled seeing that it was me. He moved over and patted the spot next to him.

"Here, sit with me." I smiled and sat almost against him. He pointed up and I looked to see a few different colored leaves.

"Winter is coming." I said as I looked down at him. His forest green eyes sparkled as he nodded.

"It's always a bit sad seeing the leaves dying in the cold weather." I said as I kept looking at him.

"The old leaves dropping make room for new ones. It's a neverending cycle just like good and evil." He looked into my eyes as he said this and I sighed as he looked down for a second. He cleared his throat and moved back. We had somehow ended up closer together and I moved back as well. I swallowed the lump in my throat and sighed as I looked up again.

"Would you accompany me to the Ever's Ball?" He asked after a momentarily awkward lapse of silence. I smiled up into the tree before looking back at him.

"I would love to." He held out a pink tulip and I gasped at it's beauty. I took it from him and smiled while sniffing it's aroma.

"I didn't see you as a rose person so I went a different route." He explained but I cut him off.

"I love it. Thank you Keith, I shall see you tomorrow night." He smiled and helped me up off the ground. He bowed to me and excused himself to attend to something else. I smiled as I held the tulip close to my chest. I was walking in a daze and didn't see the person in front of me. I collided with them and we both fell down.

"Oh, I'm sorry." I stopped my apologizes as I saw it was Millicent. She had a rose stuck in a book and I knew it was from Nicholas. I forced a smile and helped her up.

"Thank you." She never met my eyes and I sighed as I went to move around her.

"Wait. Please." She grabbed my wrist and I stopped myself from ripping it from her grasp. I turned around slowly and waited for her to speak.

"I'm sorry. I know that probably doesn't mean anything now but I am sorry. I didn't expect him to throw me that rose. He said he was going to throw it to you but-"

"You don't have to explain anything. I'm happy for you, really I am." I picked up my tulip and showed it to her.

"I have my prince now." She smiled slightly but I didn't return it. She let go of my wrist and I turned around to leave. I sighed as I turned the corner and let silent tears fall listening to her walk away. I peered back around and watched her retreating figure slump in defeat. I then continued my path to my room so that I could find a dress for tomorrow night. I closed the door and looked out my window, not seeing anything but the dark grey sky surrounding the school of evil. My gaze focused on a head of red hair looking my way with an expression of contemplation. I broke the stare and moved around my room. I packed a gown for this event but I had to find out where I put it. I searched my room for hours but it was no where to be found. I just about gave up when noises outside my window peaked my interest. A group of Nevers had a gown-wait, that my gown! I watched helplessly as one of them brought a torch close to the gown. I covered my mouth as I watched the dress catch flames instantly. I couldn't stop my sobs and sat down on the window seat watching my mother's dress go up in flames.

"What are you imbeciles doing?!" I swallowed a sob and watched Lady Lesso reprimand them. She sent them inside and looked back to the dress. I saw her extinguish the flames and pick up the dress looking to the neckline for a name. I put a hand up to the window and her gaze snapped up to me. She held the dress up more and I nodded. She shook her head and moved towards the entrance for the School of Good. I moved to the bathroom and fixed myself to appear that I was not crying.
