*SIX MONTHS LATER: January 25th*
Ricky's POV:
Six months ago my mother and father, the king and queen of the Eastern pod, separated. Six months ago, I smiled for the first time while riding a dolphin named Benny. Six months ago, I didn't have to sit in what humans call couches. Six months ago Gina and Nini were trying to cheer me up after my parents separation.
Now, we're students at East High School on a mission to find a boy and a girl who wandered into Mako Island one day and left. We don't know what happened to them or if they got hit by a full moon curse or not. That's why we got ourselves some legs by using some magic.
A few days ago, Gina, Nini, and I found this place called East High School that the familiar boy walked into and somehow found myself in this office while Nini and Gina went off to find the girl who discovered Mako.
I don't have a moon ring since my parents never passed one down to me but Nini and Gini each have one and were able to combine their powers to give themselves legs and me legs, which I'm thankful for.
I want to help those teens so that I can get my moon ring eventually from my mentor, Marty who is from the Southern pod. He's my dad's family friend.
We've been swimming a lot since we were at Santa Monica Pier to see the fireworks in June and now we're in a place called Salt Lake City, Utah. I'm used to all the traveling though because of my parents' separation where I was either with my mom in one pod or my dad in another.
I miss them a lot but for now I'm on a mission to find those two teens who discovered Mako.
"Hello? New boy. Are you listening? I asked you what your name is and why you were staring at the trophy cases? Where are you from? Are you interested in joining the musical?" I see the lady who confiscated my necklace from me when I dropped it in the hall looking for that boy who discovered Mako.
It's not only my lucky dog tag necklace that I found by a piece of coral one day but it also has my parents names engraved in it in Greek. I found a Greek text book one day that must have fallen in the ocean and used a stone to carve my parents names in the dog tag part of the necklace so that I would never forget them.
"My names Ryn- I mean Ricky. Can I have my necklace back now?" I use one of the pillows on her couch to cover my chest for comfort and glance over at a trophy that has the name 'Ricky' name on it and lie about name in case someone looks up my real name and finds out I'm a merman.
I got the name Ryn from my great grandad. Mermaids used to call me by that name a lot but I never liked it. I also never liked mermaids until I met Nini and Gina who welcomed me to their pod when mine separated.
"Not until you tell me how you know King Mike and Queen Lynne of the Eastern Pod." I look over at her desk and see the name 'Miss Jenn Jennifer' on a card in bright gold lettering.
"Wait, how do you know my parents?" I sit up on the seat and throw the pillow to the side excitedly.
I watch the lady named Miss Jenn Jennifer place her hand out on the desk in front of me and see a bright blue jewel on her finger.
How does she have a moon ring?
Wait that means that she's a part of a pod and her mother passed it down to her.
"I'm like you Ryn. You can't tell anyone at school now that I've told you. What are you doing at East High, Ricky?" I watch her hand the dog tag back to me politely while I fix the pillow on her couch.
"How do I know that you are telling the truth?" I put necklace back on my neck and admire her moon ring.
"Do you want me to demonstrate and show you my tail?" I watch her get a cup of water from a machine next to her desk.
