Chapter 12: Keep Your Lovers Close and Enemies Away

Ricky's POV:

I cannot mess today up.

I already ruined our valentine's day date.

I like E.J. I really do.

I don't know if I'm ready to say the three words that he said to me at the pizza place though.

I don't exactly know what true love is yet.

"Ricky, E.J's here." I hear a knock come from my bedroom door and see Nini standing by the door looking a bit more excited than me.

"Do I look okay?" I turn around and see Nini smiling at my bedroom door frame.

"Is that what you are wearing to your first date?" I see Nini walk into my room and lose the door gently so that Trina the cat doesn't come in to cause me to have a sneezing fit.

"Yeah, we're going bowling. E.J said it's fun and isn't near water. I wanna be comfy not formal." I blush at her feeling embarrassed by the sweatshirt I picked out and jeans that look ripped.

Miss Jenn said that they look good on me though and I haven't had a chance to find new clothes.

"Okay then wear that. Here spray some of this on. Miss Jenn says it's like men's perfume. I love the scent of the perfume Miss Jenn got me." I watch Nini hand me a bottle from her hands that says 'throb' on it.

I wonder what that means?

I'll have to ask E.J later because he answers all my questions.

"Okay, now I'm ready to go. So have you uh talked to Gilligan about y'know?" I nudge Nini's shoulder and use Gina's mermaid birth name.

I know that she has a thing for Gi.

I can see it in her eyes when we are around each other.

It's also not Valentine's day anymore so maybe it's not the day of love?

"No. She's trying to find a way to talk to Maddox about the moon pool. I don't want to distract her. Go downstairs and meet your lover boy. I'll see you later." I watch Nini head to Miss Jenn's secret cove leaving me by myself standing on the top stair.

Oh, well I guess that leaves me to talk to Jet about how he has powers and found Mako with his sister.

"Um hey, you look nice, E.J." I walk down the stairs and approach E.J tlaking to Miss Jenn about something.

I'm still getting used to all this land walking.

It's weird but in a way better than having a tail.

"Oh hey, Ricky you look like you are ready for bowling. Nice sweatshirt. I should've dressed less formal. I was just telling Miss Jenn about our plans for the day." I notice that he's wearing a leather jacket and a nicer black shirt than mine while he's talking.

"Can I have a hug?" I look over at him nervously and watch Miss Jenn leave the room smiling.

I liked our aquarium date, that was technically a school field trip.

It was nice because we had a moment together.

He showed me a bit about love and acceptance.

"Of course, Ri." I watch him go over and give me a big hug which feels nice and warm.

I like this feeling it's better than being in my undersea cave alone while my parents were fighting.

"That feels nice. I like hugs. So we're going bowling and what else do you have planned?" I look over at him and watch him place his larger hand in mine as we walk towards the front door to his dad's car.
