Ricky's POV:

I can't help but stare at E.J. He has beautiful eyes and there's just something about him that tells me that he is going to be my best friend for life, like Gi and Nixie, I mean Nini and Gina are.

I can't help by notice that the girl, E.J said is named Maddox keeps staring at her sandwich while her brother who is named Jet is laughing at something this girl wearing a jean jacket said.

I think E.J said that her name is Kourtney.

What even is a jean jacket?

I'll have to ask E.J later.

And at the end of the table E.J said his friends Seb and Carlos are dating.

What even is this human world and why are people kissing?

My parents were not holding hands or intimate around each other.

"Gina, Nini, and Ricky, we could use some help with decorating for the Valentine's day dance, do you guys want to join the committee? I know it's a bit late to audition for the spring musical. If you are interested in that, just ask Miss Jenn if she can get you a part. The drama club would love to have more dancers and background singers." I see the boy that E.J said is named Carlos stand up at his end of the table and hold his hand up for us to see.

I'm not blind or deaf. I can hear him perfectly fine from where I'm sitting next to Nini and E.J.

E.J ordered Gina, Nini, and I, crab cake sandwiches from this place called the cafeteria and it smells worse than crab or lobster under the sea.

"Carlos, give them a fair chance. They are new students. They might want to audition for lead roles." I watch his the boy named Seb help Carlos take a seat back down at the table.

"What's the spring musical? And what's valentine's day?" I lean over to whisper to E.J and shove my lunch tray to the side and watch Big Red take it happily to eat my crab cake sandwich that E.J bought me.

"It's Descendants 2: the musical, based on the movie but Miss Jenn is making a few tweaks to the script. It's like her tradition to always shake things up a bit. Valentine's day is this dumb day on Febuary 14 where we celebrate love. I think it's just an excuse to buy people chocolates and roses." I listen to E.J talk quietly to me while watching Carlos and Seb argue about this thing called the musical.

Huh? I wonder why we never celebrated Valentine's day under the sea in the Eastern Pod?

My parents never told me about it.

The only celebration I got was my birthday. That's when the fireworks would go off by a cruise ship and Gina, Nini, and I snuck out by shore to watch them.

From the corner of my eye, I see Gina talking to E.J's cousin, Ashlyn and Nini talking to Maddox who is already smiling instead of frowning. So I decide that it's best to just talk to E.J since I'm comfortable with him and he's giving me a tour of the school.

"If you are a bit confused about the whole Valentine's day dance thing, I can explain it to you later. Basically, Kourtney, Ashlyn, Seb, and Carlos are on the decorating committee. I don't get why they have to decorate when our school colors are red and white. Kourtney is taking her boyfriend Howie from our rival school to the dance. Seb and Carlos always go together every year and Ashlyn and Big Red are dating. You don't have to ask someone to be your date if you don't want to." I listen to E.J talk while I steal some of his chips that he said were a bbq flavor.

"Okay that makes a bit more sense but why do I have to ask someone to be my date?" I ask him confused since my parents were never in love.

I just don't understand the whole love thing.
