IT WAS SAFE TO SAY THAT ADELLA wouldn't look anyone in the eye after that for the next few days. And she avoided Thorin all together. If he came within five feet of her, she'd move away, usually putting at least two Dwarves distance between them.
Bilbo walked beside her through the mountain pass, telling her of Durin's Day and how they had to make it to the mountain before the last light. He had practically been screaming it at her over the sound of the heavy rain and thunder echoing through the misty mountains.
"Ooh!" Bilbo let out as the rock crumbled beneath his feet, he almost going with it.
"Bilbo!" Dwalin and Bofur quickly caught him. Adella pushed him against the wall between her and Bofur, showing it was no longer safe to walk at her side.
"We must find shelter!" Thorin screamed over the rain. They would never make it out of the mountains alive if they continued to press through this storm.
"Look out!" Dwalin suddenly screamed, nearly bursting Adella's sensitive eardrum.
A giant rock came soaring through the sky, landing mere feet above their heads. The impact caused the mountain to shake, debris littering their shoulders and feet.
Adella grabbed Bilbo, using herself as a shield to protect the small Hobbit.
"This is no thunderstorm!" Balin looked around them, seeing it more clearly now. "It's a thunder-battle! Look!"
Adella stared in amazement as part of the mountain across from them broke apart, revealing a giant made of rock. Or stone. It was too hard to tell.
"Well, bless me. The legends are true! Giants! Stone-Giants!" There was her answer. Thanks Bofur.
Another rock was hurled their way, making contact with a stone-giant behind them. "Take cover, you fool!" Thorin yelled at Bofur, who had been stunned in amazement, out in the open and a little too close to the edge for anyone's liking.
The ground beneath them began to move. "Hold on!" Dwalin screamed once more. Adella immediately shielding Bilbo.
Rock fell away below their feet, making their path considerably smaller. The mountain they clung to began to move, separating the company into two groups. "Fili, grab my hand!" Kili reached for his brother, but it was too late. They were all on the knees of one of the giants and he was joining the battle.
Another giant lurched towards them, sending his head straight into the head of their giant, sending him backwards. One of his knees collided with the remainder of the mountain, half the company jumping off to safety.
