"I heard you have a new boyfriend." 16-year-old Baekhyun teased, eyes alight with a grin on his face.
"He's not a boyfriend, he's a casual acquaintance."
Baekhyun scooped a handful of Gatsby styling wax and ran it through his short dyed blonde hair with the same self-absorbed interest he always took into styling up his rag tag image.
"He's a casual acquaintance that you fuck?"
Kyungsoo's blush was barely notable, remaining quiet without response as he mulled over the improper relationship he had with the jock. It only applied after PE and only on certain days when the locker room got quiet with the two of them remaining alone in the showers, Kyungsoo on his knees the whole time. Baekhyun sensed the discomfort and glanced away from his reflection, reaching over to ruffle his friend's hair playfully.
"Relax, I'm kidding." Baekhyun amended kindly, leaving the smell of the styling wax in Kyungsoo's hair.
Kyungsoo combed through his hair so that it didn't stay messy with the hair product and stared at the man before him in a pastel blue shirt with large black zebra stripes across it. He had to question whether the shirt was even Baekhyun's or if he'd borrowed Baekhee's again, and how it was that Kyungsoo was the one who wore the "gay" title some how. He didn't really care. He knew there was the possibility it was another girl's shirt. Baekhyun was popular so it wouldn't surprise him.
His best friend stands five foot three and some change before him with the composure to own the whole world with a smile. Kyungsoo sat behind him with shoulders permanently sloped from his lack luster enthusiasm for everything in life.
High school was such a waste of youth. High school was a waste of emotion. But high school was the link that kept him strong because Baekhyun was at his side. Unpopular and rich, but best friend to both Byun Baekhyun and Byun Baekhee. Now, that was a gift of the Gods indeed. He knew better than to overlook it. The troublemaker duo was infamous for their royal adventures and people had to respect that to a certain degree. Because having Baekhyun on your bad side meant angry school fan girls, and having Baekhee on your bad side meant the big jocks that compete for her good graces were out to get you. That left him feeling stronger than he should have, knowing the delicate balance of the high school popularity scales. But Baekhyun would never see his insecurity. Baekhyun always only saw him as strong, as smart, as defiant and he wouldn't let him down in that.
"Do Kyungsoo," Baekhyun said, turning to face the boy. "Does this look natural?"
Kyungsoo reached forward to fix his fringe, combed through it a few times before flicking the boy directly between the eyes.
"Ow! Fuck! Kyungsoo!"
He turned back around to the mirror to examine the red mark, glaring at the boy behind him through the mirror. His friend was smirking back at him now, and Baekhyun relaxed knowing he hadn't really upset him asking about his love life. There was a lot they didn't breach with one another. There were late nights with confessions in the dark, both lying in the same bed, unmoving as they stayed up until morning whispering things they hadn't dared speak in the light of day. But then there were nights that passed in absolute slumber; completely relaxed just knowing the other was there.
"Are you going to miss me?" Baekhyun asked, debating concealer on the splotchy skin between his eyes.
"I don't know." He replied and shrugged his shoulders. "I'm going to be pretty busy. It's not like you're going to be as far away. You're not going to Europe or America this time, you're only going to Japan."
Baekhyun moved quickly and wrapped his arm around Kyungsoo's shoulder with a grin.
"Does that mean you'll fly over to visit me and Baekhee?"
