The conception of love has always been hard for me to understand. A person can say they love you and show you actions yet leave  in a heartbeat.

I walked up the stairs leading to my apartment after a long day in the office. Unlocking the door with the keys, I see my best friend Sophia on the coach watching Tv. "Hey, girl! I hope you don't mind, I let myself again." She smiled at me.

I laughed to myself because knowing Sophia she loves soccer and never misses a chance to watch the World Cup. "It's ok, you know I don't mind. Who's playing right now?"

"Mexico but they're losing pretty bad." I nodded my head at her statement because I'm not the biggest soccer fan as it's not something I've grown up around. Compared to Sophia her dad is Mexican while her mom is Brazilian so they've always watched the World Cup as a family.

Walking around the kitchen I noticed flowers on my counter and my head started aching.

"Soph, who bought these." I asked praying it wasn't who I thought.

"Oh, Devon stopped by earlier..." She said to be quietly. Just the mention of his name made my stomach turn. "I don't know when he will give up. We broke up for a reason and I am tried of this harassment." I angrily expressed to her.

"I told him to get lost but he insisted you take the flowers and apologized." She explained as her eyes went back to the Tv in front of her. I grabbed the pink roses and threw them away. Devon was my boyfriend and best friend before I found out he had a whole baby mama. We dated for 3 years and not once did he mention a kid. That was the last time I opened my heart up.

After I dumped the flowers, I jumped on the coach next to Sophia. "I'm tired of men and love is not real." Sophia and I have been friends since middle school and she's my closest friend besides my sister. She was there when my parents divorced and has witness my mess with Devon. "Don't say that babes. Love is not meant to be easy or come natural." She said as her arms wrapped around my body.

"You only say that because Anthony treats you like a queen and y'all have been together since college." I stated looking at her with a sad face. Sophia was lucky with love. Her boyfriend adores her and they've been together for 5 years.

"Hey, we've had our troubles too. But my love story and yours will be different so don't compare." She said kissing my forehead. "But enough talk about boys, let's focus real men like the ones who play football!" We both laughed, I turned my attention back to the game.

"I can't wait for Brazil's game Rose! Don't tell Anthony this because he gets jealous but Neymar could get it any day." I smiled at Sophia knowing she would never leave Anthony.

"I don't know much about soccer but Neymar is attractive" I told her. Sophia is a huge soccer fan every year her family gathers for the semi-finalist and watch together.

"You know they are brining Mateo Santos back. He's really hot but not many fans are happy that he was chosen." Not knowing much about the drama, I continued to listen.

"I mean people always hate but it was a simple mistake and I think he's going to do good this year" I was about to say something until my phone ringed. I looked at who was calling and saw it was my mom. Getting up from the coach, I head to the kitchen preparing myself for another lecture on why I am single.

"Hi, mom" I answered. "Rosalie have you met with Richard yet?" Anther man she's tried to set me up with this month. "No mom I am very busy with work and i'm not looking to date." I told her for the 10th time but she never listens. "Baby, I'm just looking out for you. I know Devon broke your heart and my marriage wasn't a success but I don't want you to be alone forever." The mention of my parents divorced trigged me a bit. "I understand mom and thank you for caring but let me figure this one on my own, I'll talk to you later" I hung up quickly. I wasn't in the mood to be hear about my failed relationship.

I walked back over to the coach and sat down.

"Was that your mom again?" Sophia asked. "Yea, just the same conversation but I'm going to get some work done and sleep" I told her. The truth was my mother 's words hit me and I needed to distract myself with work.

Sophia gave me a sad look. Everyone around me always has that look like I'm a broken doll.

"Okay, don't overwork yourself." She said softly. I nodded my head and turned towards my bedroom and closed the door.
