16. Mommy and Daddys Day Off

We were driving down through Hawkins in Eddie's van, he refused to tell me what we were doing today, wouldn't even give me any clues. Like it said, he's a cruel man. I watched Eddie load a large duffel bag into the back of the van before he helped me into my side, but again, he refused to tell me what was inside it. When I was getting ready, he told me he'd been planning this with Wayne for the past two weeks behind my back. Apparently using my frequent nap times for covert operations with Wayne. He suggested comfy shoes - which is all I wear at the moment - and a light jacket, but making sure I had extra layers "just in case"... which told me nothing. The only thing he'd share is that it was a busy afternoon, just the two of us and if I got too tired and needed a nap we could go home or he'd move the last part of the day up a little. Again, telling me nothing helpful!

"Put this on!" Eddie demanded, throwing me his bandana as he continued to drive, "Over your eyes and no peeking!" he warned, his face plastered with a big grin as he spoke. I did as he asked and tied the blindfold over my eyes, rendering me helpless to whatever he was up to. We drove for about another 5 minutes before I felt the van some to a stop, this peeked my curiosity even more. I heard Eddie jump out of the drivers side before my door opened beside me, "Okay, careful now." he said as he aided me out the van, stopping me from tripping over my own swollen feet.
"Eddie! Where are we?!" I shrieked as I felt him stepping me up a curb, stopping near the sound of laughing kids and a random series of beeping and music. I could smell food, greasy food like hotdogs and French fries, then it hit me - the Arcade! I used to come here all the time as a kid, with Jason, usually when our parents were fighting. We came here everyday when we found out I was being sent to boarding school, right up until the day before I left. I still have the penguin keychain Jason won for me on my car keys. I told Eddie about that when we started hanging out more after I found out I was pregnant, he seemed shocked that I'd ever been that close with Jason, but he could see how happy it made me to think about it. Eddie took the blindfold off and confirmed we were at the Arcade, I wanted to cry at how he'd remembered all that about me.
"Well, princess... ready to get your ass kicked at Ms. Pac-Man?" Eddie joked, knowing that I was the one with the high score on that particular machine.
"You bet your ass, Munson!" I giggled, racing off into the building, leaving him in my tracks.

We spent a few hours at the Arcade, obviously kicking Eddie's ass at most of the games - he'd even won a little Bat plushie from the claw-machine for Jellybean!  I'd just finished my second round of cheese fries, surprising Eddie with how quickly I could clean out a carton of fries, when he insisted we moved onto out next activity. We walked a few buildings down, stopping outside Family Video, where Steve and Robin worked. "This is just a pit stop for our activity later!" Eddie said as he he,d the door open for me to go into the store.
"Hey Mama!" Robin called out from behind the desk, waving wildly at us, Steve flew out from the back room smiling when he spotted us.
"Hey Buckley! Harrington!" I smiled reaching out to hug them both, Eddie disappeared to the horror section, leaving me to chat to the guys for a little while. When he came back, he has 2 movies in hand - Friday the 13th and Halloween, two of my favourite movies.
"Will these work for tonight, princess?" he asked, holding each VHS case either side of his face.
"Perfect, Munson!" I nodded, booping his nose as I spoke, giggling when it twitched like a bunny rabbit. Steve checked us out, ensuring we got the 'friends and family discount' while Robin was trying to play patty-cake with the unborn baby - in reality, just patting her hands on my belly, before Eddie and I left, piling into the van again. Driving through town once again, Eddie making me wear the blindfold again, I could feel myself getting tired. Eddie insisted this was the last activity before "the one where I'd be able to nap", this really peaked my interest for the last activity - mostly driven by my desire to nap!
