Aether POV:

What's the date again? I think it's May...May 20th or something. Almost last day of school. Aether sat up in his bed, rubbing his eyes. His mind was all foggy; he'd fallen asleep at, like, 6 AM. Guess another day of running on 2 hours of sleep.

He moved around like a dead person, hitting his nose with his toothbrush and slipping on a sock. Wait...his eyes slowly went to his desk. Shoot, I forgot to do my homework! Ahhhh, dammit, Mr. Chisana is gonna kill me! He winced, thinking of what happened last time he forgot to hand in his homework. His math teacher had made him stay after school for two hours to clean all the desks in all the math classrooms. His arms had been sore for days after that, and the artificial lemon scent still lingered in his nose. Do I have time to do it now? Nope, if I don't hurry, then I'm gonna miss the bell. Panicking, he threw on some clothes, stuffed some papers in his backpack, crammed his shoes into his feet, popped his pills(with water this time), and waved bye at Paimon, who was yelling at him for skipping breakfast. Heheh, I'm gonna die when I get home. Hope Lumine left before me, otherwise she's gonna be late for sure. We already missed the bus, gotta speedrun. While he ran to school, he took out his phone and read the messages with shaking hands.

Doshi(Lumine)

Hope you left before me, I already missed the bus

Gotta run, my PE coach will kill me if I'm late

His hands were shaking too much from running to respond, but hey, at least Lumine wasn't late. He checked the time. 5 minutes! According to past experiences, it would take him...7 more minutes to run to school. I really wish my bike didn't break down a couple months ago; I'm basically dead at this point, he sighed, slowing down. What was the difference between being 2 minutes and 10 minutes late? His stupid math teacher was going to embarrass him either way. He never figured out why all of his teacher and classmates seemed to hate him; they acted as though he had conspired with the Fatui or something. Lumine faced the same situation, but unlike him, she was willing to give someone a bloody nose(even if it meant being sent to the principal's office; "What are they going to do," Lumine had said once. "Call Paimon over? She encourages standing up to bullies.")

-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-

"Where were you," his math teacher boomed. He had arrived 10 minutes late, since he'd started walking after figuring out that he wasn't going to make it to class on time, no matter what he did.

"I-I-"he could feel every pair of eyes on him. When students arrived late(excluding Aether and Lumine), the teacher would usually just give them detention or something alone those lines, not yell at them in front of the whole class. Yet another reason why he hated the school. Both his twin sister and him were treated differently from the rest of the kids. When they had told Paimon, Paimon had told them that the teachers were just mean, and that it would get better. Wrong. It got worse. At least in middle school, the teacher didn't lecture him in front of the whole class. Will things be any different in university? Hopefully. Well, that's if I even get into a good university, with all of my missing assignments and failing test grades, he thought, his mind wandering off. Maybe I should just go work at McGenshin, like the worthless piece of trash I am. And then-

"HEY! Answer my question!" Mr. Chisana barked. Aether snapped back to reality, awakening from his daydreams of working at McGenshin.

"I overslept," Aether blurted, his ears turning red.

Mr. Chisana swelled like some sort of anime character building up their supermove. He looked like he was suffocating or something, with his face turning colorful shades of red and purple, and veins popping out of his forehead. Why is he getting so worked up over something so small? It's not like I overslept because I was busy murdering people last night or something.

"Well, do you at least have your homework?" Mr. Chisana said with a strained voice. At this point, he was starting to look like a grape, with that oval head. Only thing was, grapes didn't have hair.

"Ehm, no, sorry." Aether internally winced, thinking about the barrage of words that were about to come spilling out of Mr. Chisana's mouth. The man opened his mouth so wide that you could have shoved a whole desk in there.

"FIRST YOU GET TO CLASS LATE, THEN YOU FORGET YOUR HOMEWORK, NOT TO MENTION YOUR GRADE-"

Aether completely blocked out Mr. Chisana's screaming and his classmates laughter, gazing out the window behind his cursed math teacher. How nice it would be to shove the big purple man out, then throw his classmates out along with him, one by one, and finally jump out himself. Then everything would be over. No more late nights spent thinking about what could have been, no more people hating him for no reason, no more anything. But he couldn't leave. If he really did, then Lumine and Paimon would be devasted. And that might also make the bullies happy...

"...GO TO YOUR SEAT!" Mr. Chisana yelled, finally finishing his rant. That rant lasted longer than my pet fish when I was 6, Aether mused, walking to his seat. Someone stuck their foot out, but Aether noticed and stomped on it on his way to his seat. He heard a slight whimper and smirked. It was some blonde-haired girl, cheer captain or something. She was also dating the football captain. Quite cliche, if you asked Aether. For the remainder of the class, Aether dozed off while half listening to his math teacher talk calculus or something. Even if he tried, he would fail, since last year he had barely scraped through geometry, which was the stupidest subject in the world. What was so important about learning every detail of shapes? The math teachers really thought that stores would be asking them to calculate an oranges size using it's dimensions, and that the cashier wouldn't know the difference between a sphere and a prism. Math was as pointless as life.

What was my 2nd period again? Ugh, almost through the whole year and I still can't remember my classes and where they're located, he thought grumpily, pulling out his schedule.

10th grade schedule: Aether Ying(Last name isn't canon)

1st period - Math: Room 0117, Harry Chisana

2nd period - Physical Education: Room 1143, Edward Ricardo

3rd period -  Culinary: Room 0103, Rolland Henry

4th period - Science: Room 0156, Kennedy MacDonald

5th period - Lunch

6th period - Computer Science: Room 1304, Romania Hector

7th period - Social Studies: Room 0100, Eddison Rehina

8th period - English: Room 1050, David Heart

He silently grumbled at the thought of any more physical exertion. His shoulders still hurt from running with his heavy backpack(there wasn't much in it, but that didn't stop it from banging on his collarbones and shoulder blades and just overall giving him a bad experience). But at least Coach Ricardo wasn't unnecessarily mean to him. Oh no, that guy was mean to everyone, including the Teacher's pets. Aether had a theory that Coach Ricardo had only signed up for his job so he could shout all day without getting in trouble. Shoot, spent too much time thinking about random stuff again, I'm gonna be late AGAIN if I don't hurry!

If you're reading this, thanks for suffering through my first fanfiction lmao. Also, if you're wondering why the teachers all hate Aether and Lumine, it'll be revealed later.
