Chapter 4

Lumine POV:

Once again, the poor girl is stuck in Social Studies, listening to her evil teacher drone on about some Makoto lady, Lumine thought, visualizing herself as an anime character. What am I gonna do after school? I could help Paimon make dinner, but last time it was a complete fail. The smoke thingy started blaring after I touched the stove for 2 seconds. Think I almost set the house on fire. Would I make the headline for that? "16-year-old Girl Accidently Sets House On Fire After Attempting to Cook. 0 dead, 3 injured". Gosh, that'd be embarrassing. She tilted her head to glance at the clock. It's only been 5 minutes?! No way, I bet Ms. Frothmouth hacked it! I'm getting scammed of my time! She huffed angrily at the thought of having to sit through 30 more minutes of meaningless droning. 

"Raiden Makoto was the Electro Archon before Raiden Ei; she died 100 years before Raiden Ei. Makoto was known for-" Ms. Frothmouth sounded half asleep herself. Lumine looked around. Some of her classmates were actually sleeping, with pillows and blankets. Did they bring those just for this class? Did they just start now? Probably, otherwise I would have noticed sooner, she thought, looking at the kid who was sleeping right next to her, his head resting on a pillow. Lumine rolled her eyes and pretending to read her Social Studies textbook; Ms. Frothmouth forbid the use of computers, for whatever reason. If that lady saw something that didn't date back to the Middle Ages, she would snatch it up. Blankets and pillows were invented before the Middle Ages I think, maybe that's why she allows them? Ugh, I can't wait for this class to be over, then I go to Math, and then I get to go home! What are we learning in Math again? Think it was pre-calculus or something along those lines. Whatever, schools almost over, then I get to have 2 months of freedom before 11th grade. For the remainder of the class, Lumine visualized some book coming to life and wrecking rampage everywhere. Perfectly normal thoughts.

I wonder what Paimon's cooking for dinner? Hopefully she doesn't end up accidently falling into a pot of water again, Lumine thought as she walked home. Aether was beside her, humming some tune that she didn't recognize. It sounded a bit like something Yun Jin(a famous singer from Liyue)would write, all slow and melancholy.  

She felt someone pull harshly on her backpack, and, instinctively, went to bite the item of annoyance. Well, it was instinct for her, anyways. But someone else pulled her hair, not letting her teeth to touch the hand. She flashed her eyes up to see none other than Pimply Pallad, who still didn't know how to tie his shoelaces. Before she had time to react, someone whacked her in the back of her head with a book. Yowch...I'M GONNA KILL YOU I TOOK TAWAKONDO WHEN I WAS 5 I STILL REMEMBER SOME OF IT- Pallad fell to the ground with a whimper. Aether was bouncing around like a professional boxer or something, holding his Social Studies textbook like a weapon. These things are better used for weapons than for studying, Lumine thought. Then she swung her leg and kicked the person behind her in the jaw. There was a small crack, then a howl. Jeez, he screams like a baby. The person who was holding on to her backpack had let go, waving his arms around like a professional boxer too. Lumine's heart sank as she looked around. There were around 10 big guys(and girls)surrounding them, all bouncing around like professional boxers. It almost looked like a dance party, just without the DJ and disco. 

"Ehm, Aether, should we run?" Lumine laughed nervously. Probably not. Most of them aren't carrying around 100 pounds of luggage. 

Aether shook his head. "Can't outrun them with all the books and stuff." The twins could run very fast, but they would tire out more quickly, due to the bags full of useless books. Maybe I can throw the books at them. 

Pallad stood back up, laughing. "This is what you get for interfering with our business!"

Lumine furrowed her brow. "You mean beating you and your goons with a book?"

Pallad flushed red. "N-no! Well, yes, but no! What I mean is-" Lumine threw a book at him, and then started chucking books everywhere, not caring who they hit. Aether followed her example, landing a headshot on one of the wannabe boxers. Lumine looked up, and saw that they had all retreated out of range. I'm almost out of books already? But I've only chucked, like, 20. I got scammed again! 

"So, any ideas? We're kinda in the middle of the woods and almost out of books," Aether said.

Lumine looked around. The idiots were all standing behind some tree or something. The trees were too smooth to climb, with the lowest branch hovering over 10 feet above Lumine's head. 
Then, without warning, the idiots raised some war cry that sounded like a toilet flushing and charged.
Lumine barely had time to dodge a hit from some girl(her name was Judith or something), before she got hit in the back by a man-rilla. She landed on her stomach with an oof, then kicked her legs out to knock the man-rilla to the ground. He went down with a roar fit for the animal he was inspired off of. She jumped to hear feet and head-barreled Judith in the stomach. Someone grabbed her and flung her into a tree before she had time to upright herself, though. Owww, I think I broke my back...Lumine grumbled, clutching her back. Then she noticed a 5-foot long branch on the ground and picked it up. She swung it around in a circle around her, dealing AoE damage. This is kinda like a videogame, except that I'm actually the one fighting this time. 
Her arms grew weary of swinging the branch around, and she let go, panting. She looked around for Aether, to see where he went. He was currently wrestling around with about 4 people. She was gonna go and help, but someone punched her in the nose. Bright red blood spurted out, staining the ground beneath her. She grew a bit dizzy at the sight of her own blood, but chomped down on the guy that had punched her nonetheless. He howled in pain as her teeth also started to draw blood. Lumine had picked up some fighting tricks from stray cats; bite and scratch your enemy. That was why she always kept her nails long. Her teeth and nails dug into the guy, and he fled after other guys that had already ran. Really, 10 guys are having trouble taking down 2? These guys might be strong, but they have no braincells whatsoever. She ran over to help Aether, knocking the guys off of her brother with any means necessary(this including more biting, scratching, kicking, and punching). She helped him get to his feet.

"Leave the bags, we gotta get out of here, they might be dumb, but there are still too many," Lumine said, panting. Her face was scratched up and bloodly, and Aether was no better.
Her brother nodded, and the two raced off, leaving 7 idiots to chase after them.

"Can't run directly home, they'll just follow us!" Aether yelled. "Follow me, I'll confuse them with some random turns and try to lose them!" Lumine nodded.
She followed her brother through the trees, twisting and turning until she had no idea where they were. Slowly, the shouts of the idiots quieted down, until there was only the sound of the two siblings panting. She was just now starting to realize how much it hurt. Her back felt broken, her nose was sore, and the scratched all over her burned. And something else burned too. Her heart. She was beyond pissed. Why did they hate them so much to the point where they jumped the siblings in the woods, where no one would see? If they had injured them enough, then Aether and Lumine would have been left there until Paimon came searching for them. 

"Those stupid idiots," Lumine said through gritted teeth, as they came to a stop in front of their house. Her lungs were on fire too.

Aether sighed. "There isn't much we can do about it, is there? We're already hated by just about everyone."

Before Lumine could answer, Paimon came rushing out, crying.
"WHAT HAPPENED?! NO, WAIT, I ALREADY KNOW. THAT'S IT, I'VE HAD ENOUGH, YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO A DIFFERENT SCHOOL NEXT YEAR," Paimon said, crying. 

"W-what?"

Paimon sniffled. "I'm going to send you to M-Michita Academy."

"Where is it?"

"Inazuma..."
