Context: Hinata has been under fire by the public for not being able to catch the Mafia leader, aka, Atsumu. In his desperate attempt to end things, he calls Atsumu...
TW: Implied depression, suicidal thoughts
Atsumu felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.
Sighing, he pulled it out to check the caller. "What's this," he muttered under his breath. While he didn't have the number saved, he definitely recognised it.
It was Hinata's number.
Excusing himself, he stepped out of the meeting room to answer the call. "What do you want?" he hissed into the phone.
"I'm just wondering... how long do you think it takes to burn to death?" the voice asked from the other end of the line.
"What?" Atsumu asked, any kind of annoyance slowly dissipating. "What are you talking about?"
"I figured you'd know," he said. "So what do you think?"
"Hold on." Atsumu said, a little more quickly than he'd meant to. He didn't think that that was a question that someone would just ask casually, and definitely not out of the blue. "What are you doing?"
"Me?" Hinata asked. "I'm not doing anything."
Atsumu ran a hand through his hair. Even if Hinata was the one giving him all the troubles in his life, it was still absurd for him to ignore the fact that he was, potentially, going to kill himself.
And the fact that he was asking him about that just made his situation seem even more miserable.
"Are you holding anything other than your phone?" he asked.
"Yeah..."
"Drop it, whatever it is." Atsumu instructed, quickly heading down the hallway. Hinata obviously wasn't thinking straight. In fact, even his voice sounded slightly muffled, and he seemed to be in a dangerously dazed state.
He heard a soft clang in the background.
"Can you just answer me?" Hinata asked, his voice growing increasingly strained. "If you're not going to, I'll just ask someone else."
"Just wait, okay?" Atsumu said, quickening his pace. He had to stall for as much time as possible and distract him from doing anything stupid. "I'll come over to you. Where are you at right now?"
"I don't know. It doesn't matter." Hinata snapped. "You know, why did I even call you? What on earth was I thinking?"
Atsumu opened the door towards the communications centre. "No, no. You did the right thing," he said, pushing a staff member aside.
"Track his location," he told the staff, connecting his phone to the port. He turned on the speaker mode, gripping his phone tightly.
"I never said I was asking for myself." Hinata pointed out.
Atsumu sighed, leaning his arms against the desk. "We both know that's a lie," he said. "So drop the act."
There was a moment of silence.
"Hinata?"
"You're too smart for your own good." Hinata said after a while. "Well, on the bright side, I suppose your business will go well without my interference."
"That's nonsense." Atsumu snapped.
"Sir."
He turned to look at the computer. There was a red blinking dot in the middle of the map...
"Send the location to me," he said, unplugging his phone. "Hinata, don't you dare hang up on me, you hear me?"
"Whatever you're doing, you better hurry up. I don't have much patience, you know."
