Disclaimer
As I come close to completing Killer-Red (the story that follows this one), I have realized something important that I want to say to the reader.Devil in My Mind. While this story is a crossover between Devil May Cry and DC, I want to indicate that if you come into it, only as a Devil May Cry fan, it's probably not going to do anything for you. It really is geared more towards a DC audience. In fact, I would say, you could know nothing about Dante or Devil May Cry and still enjoy it, if you are already a DC fan.
Dante and Vergil are in it and their lore is fully regarded but if you don't know the importance of Raven's relationship with Trigon or who the Titans are, it's going to be a hard sell. Dante is being brought into their world and as such, I introduce Dante to the reader, as though this is your first time meeting him. Same with Vergil. I do not do this with the DC characters. I write under the assumption that you already know these guys, so I don't need to explain who they are to you, because obviously, that's what you came here for - The Teen Titans.
The Titans are not particularly awed by Dante or Vergil because there are plenty of DC characters that have similar powers that the Titans have already met. It's more a matter of Dante's relationship with Raven and why he is important to her. This will mean nothing to you if you don't know Raven's backstory or what fatherhood means to her. You do not, however, need to know that much about Dante or Vergil. They are acting in response to the Titans and Deathstroke, and learning about their environment.
We are not going to go to Redgrave City, we're not going to Fortuna, we're not going to run into Nero or Lady or Trish or anyone else from the gang. This is a Titans story with Dante and Vergil in it, Dante being the lead. So, if you are here because you want Devil May Cry, the truth is, you will not really be getting it. You will be getting DC with Dante and Vergil.Forward
Hello and welcome! There's lots of Wacky Wahoo Pizza Man in store and plenty of Trigon's Gem to go around. For in this niche of a story, I shall play with the idea, that what Raven's always wanted most, is a real father. Someone uniquely belonging to her in a paternal way. So, she takes it upon herself to personally request him in a secret spell.
Unbeknownst to her, she's been describing Dante, the Legendary Devil Hunter, all along. Meanwhile, ever since he lost his Trigonic powers, Slade's developed an obsessive fascination with Devil Arms, his favorite one being, Devil Sword Dante. As for Dante himself, he can't find an explanation for why he's working at a newly-fashioned Devil May Cry shop, in a city he's never visited before. What happened to offing demons while playfully sparing with Vergil in the Underworld?
The narrative takes place after the finale of the 2003 Teen Titans animated series and post Devil May Cry 5. It features Jump City, where the Titans reside, and Devil May Cry 5's Demon World. For Devil May Cry, I drew ideas primarily from games 3 and 5, as well as the first anime series. For the Titans, I drew primarily from the Teen Titans show and from the live action series. I realize that Teen Titans and Devil May Cry have different esthetics from one another and invite you to visualize this fusion, in whatever way feels right to you.
Finally, there is mature tag on this tale, as it does contain graphic violence and inner child sadness, both par for the course in Devil May Cry and DC. But, there are also joyful themes in this story, such as goofiness, action, and tenderness. I loved creating a father/daughter dynamic between Dante and Raven and think this is an incredibly sweet pairing. Hopefully it brings you all the feels and happiness that it's brought me.
Thank you for opening yourself up to this crazy combo of crossover. How very, SMOKIN' SEXY STYLISH of you!
