The next day, Raven tries to meditate in her room but can't tap into the sanctuary. Or really anything, even with the aid of her magic mirror. Frustrated, she gets up off the floor and leaves her room. In the den, she locates Beast Boy playing a video game.
"Beast Boy?" she addresses, holding her magic mirror closely against her chest.
"What's up, Raven?" he replies, though not looking away from the television screen. "No! How was I supposed to know the TXP was gonna explode?! Arg, lame!"
"Beast Boy, I need to tell you something."
"Awe man, I died! Whatever, stupid time machine! Anyhow, what's going on, Rae Rae?"
He shuts the console off and gives her his undivided attention.
"I think, I think there's something wrong with my powers."
"What do you mean?"
"I can't tap into the sanctuary. I can't even tap into Azarath. My magic mirror's not functioning either."
"Try levitating, that always seems to work."
"That's a good idea," she says then sits with her legs folded.
"Azarath Metrion Zinthos."
Nothing.
"That's strange, but, weren't your powers acting up a while back? When we had that battle with Slade? I know you don't like to talk about it, but it seems like you had problems then too."
The crime alarm goes off. Robin sprints into the room.
"Just got a lead on Control Freak running amok in the mall. Titans, let's move!"
Beast Boy hops to his feet. Raven does not. She hasn't fought crime in a while now. The other Titans don't expect her to join but she's worried. Should she tagalong?
"Can I come this time?"
"I don't think so, Raven," Robin tells her. "We're probably going to run into demons, they're the new norm in the city and you need to save your strength."
"I know but I can't get my magic to work today. Maybe I'm rusty. Please can I join you guys?"
Robin ponders, noticing the mirror secured closely in her arms.
"Alright but if you need to step back then definitely do so. Bring the mirror, I know it helps. You can keep it in the car during combat. Come on, let's go!"
Later, the Titans confront Control Freak in the mall. He shouldn't be there. No one should. The place is supposed to be locked.
"Control Freak!" Robin points. "What are you doing here?"
"Titans, check this out, I used my remote to capture a demon! Pretty spiffy, huh?"
They watch him release a massive, raging demon from his remote.
"Grah, fowl human, you dare summon ME?!"
"Titans, attack!" Robin shouts.
Control Freak gets between the demon and the Titans melodramatically.
Nooooo!"
Beast Boy scratches his head.
"What the heck?"
"No no, not the Titans. Ignore them! I want you to fight the Nephilim!"
He points his remote upwards, broadcasting a giant screen into another dimension. A much younger, black-haired Devil Hunter appears, in the middle of battling a very different set of demons with his Rebellion Sword. Aware he's being watched, he finishes them off and scoffs.
