All guesses have arrived. Lucius and Narcissa start to lose their edge when Voldemort arrive. Lucius did not want to admit it but he is thankful to Snape for keeping the Dark Lord occupy. At the same time, Narcissa goes to find her son fast. She frowns in disapproval when she saw Draco with Serenity, talking to each other seriously and intensely.
"Draco" call out Narcissa.
Both of young witch and wizard jump and look back at Narcissa.
"The Dark Lord is here already. Better make haste on your announcement" remind Narcissa.
"Yes, mother. Please wait for me in the ballroom. I shall come back and make my announcement" answered Draco.
"As you wish," says Narcissa and walks back to the ballroom.
Draco turns back to Serenity and takes a deep breath.
"Ready?" asked Serenity.
Draco node his head and held out his arms to Serenity.
"I'm counting on you for this, Serenity," said Draco.
Serenity smiled confidently, node her head and take Draco's arms. Together they walk back to the ballroom. At the ballroom, Pansy and Daphne almost lose it when they saw Draco and Serenity walk back into the room together. Draco stops two steps before and Serenity let go of Draco's arm and walks down a few more stairs before she stops.
Draco takes out his wand, turn it into a walking staff and hit it to the stairs, demanding everyone's attention to him. Voldemort rise his eyebrows a bit as he turns away from talking with Snape, Lucius, Bellatrix and Narcissa. Now that Draco has everyone's attention, he turns his walking staff back into his wand. At the same, Serenity smiled as she looks at Astoria's reaction to the whole thing. The girl react as she hoped to.
"On behalf of the Malfoy household, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Dark Lord, and each and every one of you coming here today on this festive night. Happy Christmas to everyone" said Draco, turning to Voldemort's direction and how his head with respect.
Voldemort smiled, pleased at Draco's gesture for addressing him. Then Draco looks to Serenity and Serenity looks back to Draco smiling and nods her head. Draco tries his best not to look too happy or relieved.
"With that, I have an announcement to make. My engagement to Astoria Greengrass" announces Draco.
Everyone is shocked, then slowly claps their hand. Millicent's jaw drops but she too later follows suit and claps her hand. But not Pansy and Daphne. Pansy looks like she is about to break down crying so she quickly excuses herself from the ballroom. As for Daphne, her expression turns blank as if the world has ended. Serenity felt uneasy when she look at Daphne. Could it be that she thought that Draco is going to ask her hand in marriage?
Even so, not as surprised as Astoria. She looks at everyone who congratulates her with pure shock and sheer fear.
"Astoria" call out Draco and hold out his hand.
Astoria felt both of her legs give up on her and she cannot move a step.
"Go on sweetheart," said Mrs Greengrass, happy and proud of her daughter.
Even so, Astoria did not move and look her parents in disbelief. Seeing that, Serenity walked to Astoria. Once she arrives, she takes Astoria by the arms and bows slightly to Mr and Mrs Greengrass.
"Come Astoria, your fiance is waiting," says Serenity and drags Astoria with her.
In a daze, Astoria let Serenity lead her to Draco. Once both girls arrive at the stairs, Draco smile and nod his head to Serenity. Serenity returns the gesture and leaves Astoria. Draco stands in front of Astoria with a soft beautiful smile, the only smile that he reserved for his mother. Now he reserves that smile for Astoria.
